Everything costs at least 50% more than it did in 2019 and wages are flat, the news is full of bankruptcies and store closures because no one has disposable income anymore, and 80% of the people in the country are priced out of the housing market.

Boomers own their homes. Gen z is priced out of home ownership unless you make like top 10% income.
>>
>>60956030
gen z will eventually inherit their homes from the boomers

This. My parents go on 3-6 luxury trips a year. I make good money as an accountant but my job will be displaced by ai soon. Everyone not already in the top 5% is fucked now.
>>

ai WILL take most jobs

It won't, it's garbage that hallucinates, that needs careful prompting for even basic tasks and that is a century or more away from manifesting anything physically

Get ai to make you a coffee. Get it to flush your toilet. Get it to do anything except speed up word processing (sometimes).

I'll wait.

it would be pretty easy to code all of that with AI. Just ask it what needs to be purchased and what are the steps.

The biggest problem with gold and silver is security. Where you gonna keep it? If you're buying gold backed securities, what will you do when the gold isn't actually there? Gold is kind of a meme. Bitcoin is sort of on that edge where any major technical upset in cryptography could totally destroy it in one shot. Low-turnout elections have started to benefit D's more than R's actually, R's need something to get out and vote for while D's have a consistent political machine that offers a higher baseline. here's the solution to the housing crisis, would fix it overnight
>50% federal property tax on all residential buildings
>property is exempt if a. the owner owns two or fewer properties total or b. occupies it personally for at least 1/4 of a given year (including a single unit for multi-tenant properties)
it would cause an immediate dump of properties owned by companies that only exist to make life more expensive for their "customers", and would have the secondary effect of forcing slumlords to live in their own slums which is a sizable incentive to make them less shitty
I have no problem with landlords, but they should be individuals that you can talk to face to face, not soulless corporations that see you as just another lemon to squeeze
also the default 2 exempt means normal people can own a vacation home or secondary rental property without getting screwed

Slumlords are generally the small mom&pop landlords; not the big corporate ones. They're not liquid enough to do maintenance, and are generally bad at running a business and try to nickel and dime you over the dumbest little things.

You usually pay a premium with corporate landlords, but the grounds get maintained, you can put in a service request through an online portal, and it will often get done in a week and you don't pay an additional cent. Breaking the lease is in the contract, and merely honoring the contract to the letter is better than what you get from small, non-corporate landlords.
>>
>>60963225
>Implying corporate landlords don't stack the lease agreements against renters.
>Implying corporate landlords employ enough quality maintenance persons to get to you within a week.
>Implying corporate landlords aren't going to charge far over market rate for a shoebox because nobody actually wants to compete with each other via pricing since they don't have to.
>Implying corporate landlords don't build extremely cheap buildings with paper thin walls.
>Implying corporate landlords honor contracts unless compelled to.
I don't think you are from the United States, in fact you can't be.
>>
>>60963225
I didn't intend to imply otherwise in my post, and obviously the details need tweaking, but the basic principle is balancing the ability of people to own their homes while still having access to rentals if they're only living somewhere for a few years
I suppose if an individual owns just one house and manages an apartment complex they'd fall under the exemption, so maybe not including part a for multi-unit properties would help fix that
the main issue is big corporations being able to camp on a gigantic portfolio of single-family homes, charging far more in rent than what the mortgage would be in a sane market, and leaving people that want to own with few to no opportunities by outcompeting them with cash offers
there are also plenty of areas where one company has an effective monopoly on all housing, so they can basically just do whatever they want
on our current trajectory, there is absolutely nothing preventing every single home in the country from becoming a corporate owned rental

American. I had infinitely more problems with a small landlord than with a corporate one. The Orwell quote rang very true.

It's like AirBnBs vs hotels today. There are so many nuisances and instances of nickel-and-diming you that you have to deal with if you get an AirBnB, vs just getting a hotel where they're nonissues and you're probably closer to where you wanted to be anyway.
