She got so surprised almost panicking asking me if "I'm sure" and to "take sometime and think about it". I said I will think about it and come back tomorrow. In the meantime I went to the other bank that I have an account with, this bank is much bigger and has a "bad reputation" but I was able to get my statement in 5mins with no drama and no hassle. The next day I went and closed the other bank account, the manager came and I told him I'm closing the account because of that lady and I pointed to the bitch that didn't want to give me my fucking bank statement. To understand Britain you must understand everything in this country is designed to safeguard the dumbest and most incapable in society. It's the "nanny state" in it's purest essence. The reason why the woman wasn't allowed to withdraw cash isn't some dark authoritarian conspiracy. Banks don't give a shit about retail customers. Their retail operations are barely profitable. Banks get their money elsewhere and don't need to be scheming to steal a grand from this or that customer. The reality is far more depressing. There is a significant portion of account holders who are for all intents and purposes, illiterate children. People who will transfer their entire funds to some pajeet on the phone if prompted to do so. Just look at the amount of middle class Brits who fall for whisky cask investment frauds every year. The government then took draconian steps to protect these retards by legislating to force banks to refund customers who are victims of fraud. The bar is so high, the only way a victim won't be refunded is if the bank can prove they willingly shared their login details with someone. So when they ask what the money is for, it's to make sure she isn't being scammed and withdrawing cash to send to some Moroccan boyfriend she met on facebook. If she proceeds with the withdrawal and comes back a week later claiming she was defrauded, the bank will be forced to refund every penny to her unless they can prove every step was taken to make sure she wasn't being a victim of a scam. That's where the police comes in. The bank needs to call them to have some kind of recorded proof that they did try to establish she was intelligent enough to understand what she was going to do with the money. If the woman was elusive when asked what she planned to do with it, the bank was immediately put at a massive risk of having to give her a refund in the near future.
