>gold has more than doubled in 3 years
Anyone else mildly alarmed by this? Gold moved at a snails pace for most of my adult life. I bought an ounce as a teenager for about $1k, it was barely $2k in my 30's, and now it's nearly double that.

Is there a historical precedent for this? When has gold ever more than doubled in a short span, and what happened afterward? How did it relate to fiat currencies of the time?
>>
>>60961538
Weird phrasing but I meant to say it took from the time I first got into it as a teenager until I was 30 to appreciate 80%

Today I'm 33 and it has appreciated more than 100% since 30, so it seems shocking to me

Add to that. Look at the reverse repo (where banks park their excess cash reserves to make some interest overnight). It’s empty. No buffers. No serious gold reserves. No cash. Only assets that we KNOW have fallen 39% in just 36 months.

That still have all this shit unmarked to the real market price. The only thing propping it up was the big print in 2021 and that’s gone “somewhere”. Now empty. If you have no liquidity you MUST start selling treasuries. And when they do and there’s no buyers and the can’t hide their losses and can’t cover liabilities (depositors money). Panic will begin. The rich have already bunkered down on this one.

These are old numbers before prices went up.
The problem with copper, and to a lesser extent silver is the value/volume ratio.

$1 million dollars:
Gold = 11+ kilos (270.27oz) = about <600cc = >0.6 liters
Silver = 40k oz (23809.52oz) = about 120000cc = <120 liters
Copper = 250k oz (219298.2lb) pounds = double garage at least.

The implications of silver remonitization are massive. We’re talking social, political, and monetary regression back to a world resembling 1850. Silvers necessity as money would be evidence that no credit structure remains intact, all industrial scale capital and logistics seize up. I can see copper being bartered in such a scenario just as anything might be bartered, by those that have use for it. But copper remonitization in the sense that copper becomes a silver substitute would imply a level of impoverishment much more severe.

Palladium has a fair market value, but is not highly liquid like small silver, or to a lesser extent gold coins and bullion.

Palladium is 99.9% an industrial metal, and that includes dental alloys. You can sell it to a dealer. Palladium is not a metal suitable for preppers, unless they want to do LENR (cold fusion) research.

Yes they are lucky triple seven. Most people cannot fully appreciate just how much silver would climb if any serious monetary demand for silver arose in a market where there is not even enough silver production to meet current industrial demand.

LBMA his opaque about the available free float in their vaults, but it's safe to assume there isn't enough available silver for every American to have even 5 oz.

>1980, and it went down 90% in the next 30 years,,,,lmao why are stacktards so dumb?
You've already picked that cherry. Find another one. I, and most of the people in this thread bought out silver when it was less than half of the price today.

The 1980 price was an outlier caused by a shortsqueeze. Current price for nickel is $15,175 USD per ton. The price went up to $100,000/ton during a short squeeze a couple of years ago. You cannot compare the normal market clearing price ($15k) with an aberrant price caused by a transient market fluctuation.

If that is the best frail peg you can hang your argument on, you're an abject failure.

We are currently approaching the nominal 1980 high, and this time it's organic price discovery, and the rise is primarily due to the increase in money supply.

When you compare the prices for goods today in silver vs the pre-1964 prices, you will notice that many of the prices are either the same, or are less today than in 1964. A gallon of gas in 64 was around 25 cents, which works out to $7.74 today. Minimum wage in 1964 was worth nearly $39.00 per hour today in silver. One hour of minimum wage work bought 5 gallons of gas. Try that today.

All they have are some guns and the illusion of wealth. The economy has inertia and so long as the illusion holds, it can run on the fiction, but the market smells the fiat dilution and it results in inflation. If the market bubble pops, all bets are off. Canada is already in the toilet.

There will be a peak sometime in the future when the millennials and zoomers hit their 50s and feel nostalgia for these good old days. (2015-2025) Supply will be low, but the people who want them will be affluent. You see the same thing with baseball cards today. Who buys the expensive classic ones?

Gold vastly outperformed crypto while shitcoin enthusiasts that still live in 2021 huddled around their little corner hoping, as usual. If ^that move^ happened to any top10 coins, this board would be going fucking insane. But it didn't happen to any top10 coin. It happened to gold.
I'd love to see a move like that in the crypto space. It would be nice. I'm sure plenty of you are still waiting for it. But that hasn't happened, and it's looking more every day like the recent ATH lovetap was it for the year.

>Reminds me of last year's curious gold tamp down during the summer
They can't really control the price with a tamp anymore, all they can do is stop the momentum if the volume is low. China (Shanghai Gold Exchange/Futures) is buying at $43+ so if they try and tamp down to $40, there's a three buck delta. You can get 250 thousand oz bars onto a shipping container and send it to China insured for under $100k, that leaves $650k+ profit.

China is now setting the effective minimum price for silver now. When China allows their citizens to buy silver bullion en masse, expect the price to jump a few more bucks, possibly even to 50.
>>
>>60964190
>Prices are so high now you might as well run away with it and be rich if you're a dealer
Yeah, this is the truth of it. Gold is soon gonna be only for central bankers, while silver has its time in the sun - pretty much everyone could buy an ounce at 100 dollar silver. Nobody can even afford a 1/10th ounce of gold.

This is sort of why I don't trust gold, retail-wise it seems weak compared to silver.

If your too poor to gamble a bit on stonks that’s fine, but there’s big profits to be had as tech stocks deflate, all that capital is going to look for safe haven and your pension fund managers are not going to be buying physical gold, they’ll pile into mining companies.

They will tamp and slam with paper silver until the COMEX/LBMA runs dry on available good delivery bars.

When that happens, COMEX/LBMA will declare a force majeure and do a cash settlement for the shorts, forcing buyers to source bars from the retail market, bifurcating the real physical market from the paper spot price.

Expect the price to jump $10-20/oz and the Shanghai Gold Exchange to set the real spot price for physical. The Jews in NY and London will have literally out-Jewed themselves.

Just bought these dimes from my LCS (a slick, holed 1856 and a scratched up 1912-D) for $2.50 a piece.
Normally I'd pass up on coins in this condition, but Silver is Silver and it's not every day that you get a chance to buy at 30% below spot.

Yeah, next time I'm there I'm gonna ask what the stuff that isn't selling is and see if I can get a good price, sounds very exciting as long as he doesn't pull out some ugly spoon from the 1950's (I'd still buy it.)

>No. Usually it climbs all week through Friday, then gets Tamped down on Monday.

But I agree 100% with you that it hasn't been working as usual. I suspect Chinese buyers are slurping the dips and taking physical delivery in order to send the bars to China.

If you bought on Friday and sold on Monday you used to make a slim profit most weeks. Friday's are option close days, so they would tamp down to fix the option price.

>At what time do weekly option contracts expire? Similar to standard monthly options, the final settlement for an expiring weekly option is based upon the daily settlement price of its underlying futures contract (Gold 1:30 p.m. ET, Silver 1:25 p.m. ET, Copper 1:00 p.m. ET) on the weekly option last trading day.

>In the U.S., the standard expiration day for listed stock options is typically the third Friday of the expiration month, barring holidays, after which option contracts expire.

We're likely to experience a perfect storm of the stock market crashing, bond market shitting the bet, France and/or UK crashing as the real estate crash takes down the banks.

I don't know what event will trigger the cascade. The metals/commodities markets may become completely dysfunctional.

If WW3 breaks out, instant force majeure on everything, and pray they don't pass an emergency executive order confiscating silver from "hoarders".

Even if they offer huge premiums, who wants fiat just before the governments default?

>Yeah, next time I'm there I'm gonna ask what the stuff that isn't selling is and see if I can get a good price
Let me know how it goes, I'm always worried that the dealer will be insulted if I directly ask what stuff he has that isn't selling and usually beat around the bush and ask for stuff that I know usually isn't popular.

Has anyone carefully read the fine print on an American 30 year fixed mortgage so see if there is a force majeure or inflation clause. I'm an Albertan and our Jew banks WILL NOT GIVE A FIXED 30 YEAR MORTGAGE, PERIOD!

The best our mortgages can do is offer a fixed 5-7 year period, after which the mortgage rate resets to whatever the current prevailing rate is.

They've never once dropped property taxes in places with them, so you'll be paying 3% of 10 million dollars every year if you own a house 100% paid off.
The mortgage isn't even the problem, the government during inflation is already just straight up repossessing houses through property taxes, which have risen as fast as the housing market and even affect grandfathered-in buildings that are already paid for.

This isn't even an abnormal situation, a great number of indians live subsistence lifestyles and have NO formal hourly job, they get paid for whatever work they can find and wouldn't even understand what you told them if you said that americans work 8 hour days 5 days a week, there literally is no jobs or industry of any kind there.
You can have entire towns where yeah, they couldn't buy a single ounce of silver unless they found someone to buy livestock from them.

This is bad for Leafs, but great for Albertans who want independence. Our disposition is much closer to that of a Texan or a Montanan than someone from Ontario or Quebec. (you can probaby guess that Albertans call them a bundle of sticks)

It's important to remember that Canada has literally no economy and is basically a tick on america's balls, they're basically gonna be indicators of how fast america is collapsing.
Americans have a much better business environment right now, but our economies are so tied together that you'll see the place with the shittier environment (Canada) losing tons of existing industry to the USA, much like blue states lose population to red states.

The collapse doesn't happen in america first because the 50 states will bail each other out constantly and it's too big to fail - until it does - but you'll see small irrelevant parasite countries like Canada just get more and more unlivable.

Ontario & Quebec will be receiving the bulk of the $360 billion in federal spending ("investment") with some dribs and drabs going to the east coasters.

Photographing coins in a way that does them justice is exceedingly difficult, if not impossible because the play of light almost needs to be dynamic to get the full beauty.

I wish I could get something like that. I welded mine from 1/2" plate and used a dual lock ATM safe door. Probably a <10tl safe, which means about an hour or more for the average idiot. It's 600 lbs without the door.

Fear not, Alberta will send him some money again. Quebec would be an amazingly rich Province should they ever decide to actually harvest some of their available resources, but why bother when Alberta will do it for them.

If Quebec ever went independent they could be as rich as Norway if they actually wanted to work hard and fire half or more of their lard assed civil servants who produce nothing but red tape and regulations.
