But it’s cutthroat and the job is cushy and well paying, so of course women are going to do whatever it takes to fit in with the corporate hive mind. The candidate is evaluated on a number of technical metrics which are mostly objective. But there's an intentionally ambiguous category called "culture fit" which ostensibly is meant to measure how closely the candidate aligns with the values/mission of the company, but in practice it's used as a legal way for corporations to reject candidates for whatever arbitrary reason they choose without getting into legal trouble, eg how likable/unlikable the candidate is, how presentable/professional they are, did they have body odor or bad breath, etc. Basically it's used as a score for "could you tolerate spending 8 - 10 hours every day with this person for the next 3 - 5 years of your life?"

I've been given promotions but only mediocre salary bumps. For the same title/years of experience, other people are making closer to double what I make now or at least 50% more, but I cannot do interviews well so I do not have any leverage to get more pay or another job to pay more.Oh well, I'm close to reaching my retirement number and soon it won't matter and I can just work on my own projects for fun.I wonder if they'll try to offer a salary increase for me to stay once I give them my 2 weeks notice. I feel like I'd pass on just that, but if they offered a retaining bonus equal to how much I was underpaid the past 5 years, I'd take that and give them another year.
