I have a net worth of around 1 million dollars between house, pension, equity, cash savings and crypto.
I suffer from anxiety, live like a monk, rarely eat out or socialize, and deliberate over every spend.
I doubt I'll be able to retire in any way "early".
Am starting to think that being a millionaire was not all it was cracked up to be.
The only thing money has got me is a sense of security over not having an immediate cash flow problem if I got fired.

why would you still work
just dont
>>
>>61022605
On a million you can get 40k yearly with a 4% yearly return
Why the fuck are you working
>>
>>61022622
Only if it was 100% in equities and that would be an anxiety inducing way to live. There could easily be a crash tomorrow that would take 10 years to recover from. You'd be insane to think you could live off that for many decades.
>>
>>61022622
how do you survive on 40k a year? are you a child?
>>
>>61022640
This is why people shouldn’t count their home equity as part of their NW. It should be stated separately.
Pension as part of NW is very odd.
>>
>>61022605
what is the point? u will never reproduce, when u eventually die from some freak accident, the government takes your asset and give it to tryone and his 13 kids and baby mamas
>>
>>61022663
If you can't survive on $40k as a single man you're doing something so insanely wrong. I have a family of 4 I support on $180k and I live like a fairly wealthy person, send both kids to private school, go on nice vacations, new cars, etc. in a 2900 sq ft house on .3 acres in a prime neighborhood with a good school system in a tier 1.5 city.

As a single man I could live like a fucking shlub in a studio apartment in a not amazing but safe neighborhood with a beat up corolla, and this would not cost me more than $35,000 annually. I'd have $5000 left to either treat myself to a nice meal a couple times a month, or do a vacation. And I would never have to wake up and answer to anyone. I could do my hobbies all day or just go out for a walk. Fuck, it sounds nice.

>The only thing money has got me is a sense of security
You remember those people who told you that money can't buy happiness? Turns out they were right. The only thing it does is remove financial worries. Happiness is derived from things that are free

are you me?
well no you're not i'm poorer but not broke either.
Any way. the real red pill is that making money is good, but getting to know yourself and improve yourself is even better, although that work does not pay money it will bring much more later (including better ability to get your way through life).
I neeted for a long period and used that time to solve part of my issues. I would have remained completely unable to hold a job if i did not (i had several physical / mental issues including but not limited to anxiety, chronic insomnia rooted in physical condition, chest pains).
Now i'm doing rather ok and about to pay my first house in cash
So yeah what society doesn't tell you is that if there is a problem you need to solve it otherwise it will never go away
>>
>>61022711
fake news. Making money bring my mood higher. Also being financially solid gives me some confidence when looking at normal cattle
But it's not the ultimate goal and solution to all problem, that much is very clear
>>
>>61022700
You have a loving family a giant house cars and vacations, and fantasize about NEETing in an apartment on $40k a year? I literally live that right now and would cut off my left nut with a dull razor to have what you have.
>>
>>61022622
1 million is not enough. I have over 2 million USD and its not enough, realistically.

Brokies are BTFO and its going to get worse from here for them.
>>
>>61022711
Wagie cope. Money brings you happiness, it's as simple as this. I am much happier since becoming a multi-millionaire cause I can enjoy my life. Cope brokie.
>>

The grass is always greener, anon. I love my family and wouldn't trade, in fairness, but if I knew my wife wouldn't throw a shit fit I'd gladly move my family to a lower COL environment and cut down expenses dramatically to retire early. What's the point in all the nice things and family if you spend most of your waking hours in the cage?

>only 1 million, INCLUDING house and pension
yeah, I'd be anxious, too
>>
>>61022605
That's because $1 million is literally nothing.
>>
>>61022605
Why do you guys talk about your money in terms of networth? If you have 1 million dollars but 2/3 of it is just your house, then what's the point? You can't do anything with that money unless you sell your home and go homeless
>>
>>61022700
Holy shit. I am 200k one person
>>
>>61024304
thats why renting is superior
>>
>>61022673
Great point.
>>
>>61024304
Because your net worth is how much you are actually worth? Your decision to tie money into property and other illiquid assets isn't relevant to that.

Pensions are even less liquid than property since you often can't even access them early.
>>
>>61024304
You can sell it and buy a cheaper house or rent somewhere. Duh
>>
>>61022856
Youre such a loser. Stop glazing some guy married to a post wall female.
>>
>>61024343
Net worth but more specifically excluding primary residence.
>>
>>61022700
I don’t believe you.

In a tier 1-2 city in a desirable neighborhood a house costs minimum 1M and most often 2M+. On a 180k salary before taxes you would be maxing your entire paycheck just to pay the mortgage and upkeep on a 1M house. Not even taking about all that other shit you mentioned. To do everything, you’d need to bring in 750k-1M/year where I live
>>
>>61024351
Why not just do that from the start and have more money on hand?

Exactly.
I “make” 200k a year because it is how much I need to spend a year as one person in the big city. It is how much I pay myself. The guy you are replying to is living in low class area.
>>
>>61024377
Cheaper house implies cheaper area so no job opportunities

Renting means you don’t benefit from leveraged investment and equity building, although in a lot of markets renting makes sense in today’s environment. I bought a house before covid with a rock bottom mortgage rate and living here is a much better deal than renting, however if I were starting over and didn’t already own property I’d probably rent
>>
>>61024413
I see.
>>
>>61022700
I am going to second >>61024374. Let's say you live in fucking Ohio. Or Wyoming. Flyover type deal. Let's say you are good with straight up average house - that's still 500k.

Either you inherited, you will never retire, or you are full of shit.

180k is what, like 8k after tax WITHOUT a 401k contribution? House is at least 3k of that. 5k. Private schools are another k per kids. 3k. Food is another k. 2k - car, etc and you are scraping by.
