So just to reiterate

The bitcoin core “update 30” is removing the limit on the data that can be exchanged across the blockchain from 80 bytes.

Why this is controversial is that it will enable spam to be sent, images, NFT’s, diversifying bitcoin away from a purely currency exchange to exchange of all data, perhaps eventually mortgages, houses, stocks, EVERYTHING!???

Everything will be placed upon the block chain.

Bitcoin won't just be a currency, potentially all types of data will be uploaded on it.

Larry Fink will control everything.

So, what happens when someone puts CSAM on it?
>>
I thought it was already possible to include arbitrary data in a transaction?

What makes you think that?

This will be the excuse to make self custody illegal, only treasuries like micro strategy and black rock will be able to pass the regulation to own bitcoin.

Then they will make bitcoin the new world reserve currency, digital surveillance coins, that only they can own.

The BIS (Bank of international settlements) wants to start grading SAT’s, literally marking your Bitcoin with a reputation score, like a social credit system.

Finally, once it has achieved mass adoption they will vote to increase it from 21 million to a 100 million so they can start the fiat cycle over again
>>
>>61184591
There already is CSAM on the blockchain
>>
>>61184783
On Bitcoin? Not on one single block, it was uploaded in strings across multiple blocks to form an image. Not nearly as harmful; it was just bits of data until someone compiles it. Now you will have people spamming actual cp in one single file onto the blockchain and every node operator will have to download it.

V30 only at 2.77% so it could be a while before they get the 10% needed

This literally kills Bitcoin, it’s not fud

As block rewards halve, miner incentives must shift to transaction fees. If global demand for on-chain data keeps increasing which it will, fees can exceed rewards, sustaining network security indefinitely. Bitcoin’s long-term equilibrium might depend on this crossover between diminishing subsidy and rising fee revenue.

OP_Return being increased by default will make it EASIER for certain kinds of data to be stored and discourage packing data in some other ways. it doesn't necessarily incentivize memes and inscriptions as those use a different method.

In order to filter data heavy blocks there would have to be filtering by something like 90% of the nodes and there's the ongoing issue with maintaining them. It's just easier to blow it open and deal with the problems that come and keep bitcoin filter-less by default. It's good for the health of the mempool to have most nodes set similarly to propagate transactions.

Will people actually use Bitcoin to store illegal materials? probably not. People distributing illegal materials still want am easier and better way to distribute content than a blockchain. Any "illegal" data will be from vandalism or people purposefully adding that data because they can. So let them waste their money. The data is not readable unless you really want to and there is already data deemed illegal in many jurisdictions on chain. If you're really uncomfortable hosting a mempool with data you don't like then run a node with no mempool

Lastly will this blow out the size of running a full node. yeah probably. Will it make it impossible to run a node? nope. Right now the chain size is 791.5 GB OP_RETURN Data is 4.34 GB.

The chain is growing by about 0.4 GBs/day. Even if every single block was packed to maximum it would top out growth at 0.576GB/day or so. So yeah it could make it costlier to run a node but it's not really a big deal.

Overall I think the community over-reacted a little bit in regards to the technicals.
>>
>>61184828
that being said. I think it is right that the community is pissed at Core developers for:

1 - not communicating their decisions, process and reasoning properly

2 - not tactfully and meaningfully addressing concerns of the public

3 - just generally lacking respect, professionalism and decorum when it comes to a project that means a lot to a lot of people. This isn't a normal project. People are rightful to be extremely concerned about the people involved and any changes whatsoever. It's people whole life project and identity that is bound to this thing now.

4 - seemingly lack of professional experience standards for who gets to work on core and make decisions. Something like this should properly require at least 10-15 years experience.

my two cents anyhow

it will be alright guys

Microstrategy will have to download CP. How is this not an issue??? They’re not going to run a gimped node.
>>
>>61184811
>This literally kills Bitcoin, it’s not fud
I don't get it. If it's this obvious it will make the blockchain illegal to download, why do it?
>>
>>61184922
Bold of you to assume Microstrategy runs any nodes, they just use Coinbase and Fidelity as custodians.

>>61184591
CSAM is most probably already on both Bitcoin and Ethereum, if you're that scared of it then stop running a node and rely on third parties for everything.

>>61184811
>Not nearly as harmful; it was just bits of data until someone compiles it.
>Your honor, I was not distributing CSAM, I was distributing ones and zeroes that could be trivially turned into CSAM

>>61184719
Okay schizo.

>Finally, once it has achieved mass adoption they will vote to increase it from 21 million to a 100 million so they can start the fiat cycle over again

And the point of that is what? They can already do that by creating a new currency or CBDC.
>>
>>61184591
oh not much, you will get a letter from a judge for sharing childporn if you run a node though, and likely go to jail. this is how they try to stop bitcoin. if you run no node, bitcoin will not be decentralized enough for it to make any change anymore, and you can sell your worthless tokens. anyways bitcoin would become a shitcoin like 99% of altcoins out there.
>>
>>61185044
The people implementing the changes are anti-bitcoiner plants hired to bring it all down. The one girl is clearly CCP but I also think some of them are paid off by Feds or others. It’s such an obviously dumb, useless and dangerous update that there’s no way they’re not malicious.

Yeah it’s an important enough distinction.
>>
>>61184811
The internet itself should be illegal by your fucking retarded reasoning.
>>
>>61185411
I mean, it would lead to the arrest of every single person running a node. CSAM is a strict liability offence in most countries.

What can we realistically expect to happen if the law moves on this? A soft fork?

Nobody cares about boomer ascii CP art lol. That whole thing along with the kiddie links was a one-off thing likely done for the lulz
>>
>>61184828
I don't think anybody is really worried about a drop in the hash rate. Why would we need CSAM and spam for the network to reach equilibrium? As if it hasn't already been doing that for 16 years.

Saying that increasing OP_Return makes it easier is disingenuous. If more people run v30 it goes from incredibly unlikely to almost certain.

You think it's just easier to blow it open and deal with the problems you just created. Even though you don't even understand what problems you're creating. Let alone how to actually deal with them.

>>61185411

There;s no way to put CSAM on chain you morons.

You can encode an image on chain with data but it's just raw data. You need use a viewer to decode it.

You can hide data in a PDF file of the Harry Potter books and send it to someone and they can read the whole thing and never know the illegal data is buried in there.
If the justice system is gonna go after someone for having that then your justice system is the problem not bitcoin
