where did the money go? did all of the "value" just evaporate?
>>61184964>he thinks money is realkek
>>61184967i mean i know the answer but i can't wrap my head around it
>>61184964money heavenit was never real, just took a minute to realize it. many, many such cases

>>61184964>Where did the money go?For you? Into the knife skin. For the person on the receiving end of that transaction? Into their pocket.
> just print more knives!
>>61185020you cant just print more knives!
>>61184964I painted a picture of a bird. Yesterday I was selling it for $100, but today I decided I am going to sell it for $200 instead. Does that mean I’m $100 richer today?
>>61185065Gay comparison. The knives are highly liquid assets
>>61184964The only "value" it has is the price someone else is willing to pay. Which is now less.Glad I could help.
>>61184964yes it just evaporatedvalue is not money, it is literally "what other people think"
Why didn't they sell it when they could? It's greed.
>>61184964ezTo the people who the Chinese hoarders gave their money to when they bought the rare boxes.
>>61184964Marginal Utility by Carl Menger says value is always subjective. Now that everyone can easily acquire a knife (inflation, from latin inflare), nobody is willing to invest $2000+ cold hard earned cash into those knife skins on the market. And when the highest bidder and lowest seller for such a knife is at $800 dollars, we can effectively say the entire skin market collapsed by 2 billion USD in 5 hours. The money isn't gone, but the value indeed evaporated through fiat inflation
>>61184964was it ever there in the first place? you can't even cash out from Steam, you just get store credit
Correct me if I’m wrong but shouldn’t digital assets in order to be tradable should be tokenized and the supply should be fixed? I don’t really get how someone can dump there entire net worth on a something digital that he can’t even own.
>>61186149Skins rotate out of being available to players, so there are fixed supplies for these items
>>61186165Fair enough
>>61184964Same thing will happen to cryptos soon
>>61184964If you want to get truly philosophical, the only things that truly have value are physical goods (with tangible uses) and services. Anything else is just humans basically writing IOU notes on a societal scale (crypto, stocks, gold, silver, cash, pokemon cards, art, NFTs, beanie babies, tulips, etc.) For the latter, supply and demand makes or breaks value

My humble Flip Slaughter Minimal Wear is now worth 50% less. But all the red I have, P250 See Ya Later, Five Seven Angry Mob, PP-Bizon Judgement of Anubis skyrocketed. Unfortunately I sold my AK Legio of Anubis for an Ice Coaled.I don't give a fuck because i paid all of these skins pennies years ago and I used them to play, not to trade, but I understand the butt hurt. And I'm laughing at pro traders absolutely raped by this update. After this five reds trade are the knives and gloves tradable or not?
money and value aren't the same thingthe knife is "money", what people are willing to pay for it is valueit suddenly became very cheap to make a new knife, so the value *you* had stored in knives was scooped up and shared to all the new people who have those new easy knives. Thank you for your donation to their wallets.just like world of warcraft gold or whatever, video game knife cosmetics are a bad way to store value, because it's very easy to change the rules and make new ones. Hopefully this lesson wasn't too expensive to learn.
>>61184964There was never any real value, this is the online poker equivalent for lazy people with anxiety issuesbeing here with my npc all day looking at funny numbers feels easier than guessing cards
>>61184964Wow really makes you think. You could have sold when it was "incorrectly in retrospect" priced.
the real price of cs skins is 0.just saying. We used to download them for free 15 years ago

>>61188602Thats where youre wrong friendo i know all about about boston markets
>>61188048those are based on sale's value
>>61184964it is called panic sell, 1 billion dollars loss, that how much money was transferred from CS2 skins that is used for China for money laundering. People sold quickly and the market corrected. I love it, I support Gaben.
Arguably real value was lost since all those cs2 gambling sites lost all their product.
>>61184964>did all of the "value" just evaporate?Yes.Same thing happens to stocks sometimes. On the recommendation of some dumbfuck stock analysts I bought into a LASIK stock. A few months later I saw a news headline about them losing a patent battle in court. The next day, the stock had literally dropped 50% overnight. I decided to sell, and it was a good thing because it went to pennies not long after. All that "money" and all that "value" simply evaporated. It's the only word to describe it. This holds true for any asset that has its value depend primarily on future earnings -- if those future earnings are somehow destroyed, the value of the asset collapses. In the case of your "knife skin" the answer is a little different, though. There is no intrinsic value to your "knife skin" because the company can always generate more at any instant that it wants to. It can re-skin every knife in the game with your "rare" one if it wants. So, it's not an earning asset to begin with, and there is no value to it other than a meme. This is my main concern with Bitcoin. It's only valuable because people believe it has value. I'm glad I bought some back in the day, but I don't pretend that anything is keeping its price up other than the growing spread of belief that it has some sort of value to it. It's useful, sure, but it's actually become much less useful than it used to be. Ten years ago, lots of websites accepted it for payment for services and even products (Adafruit). Even five years ago, HobbyKing announced they were taking it for payments. Now, 99% of those websites have stopped accepting it, and it's morphed into a "it's only for hodling! you leave it to your grandchildren when you die!" sort of "asset" -- all the latecomers are obsessed with just buying it and sitting on it, not using it for web purchases.
>>61184964Just like when you buy a car from white vermin and it doesn’t work. Sure you paid 2k for it because you fell for the white devil and his lies, but now you can’t even get rid of it. Call Jose to take it away for free.
>>61185093not anymore lmfaoAnd that's precisely why the value evaporated. If every chump can craft one now, then who needs to trade for it? When the liquidity of an asset decreases, so does the value.
>>61184964>Not naming it tamponL
>>61187742Nah at least skins are being used
>>61185829Lmao are you serious? This whole time people been saying these skins are worth money, yet they can only actually buy them with Steamcuck bucks and they can't even transfer into real money? Lmao WTF lmao. I'm so glad I never feel for this revolving trapdoor for normies.
>>61192469Hes wrong, People are talking out of their asses. it's the easiest thing in the world to RMT. if it was only for "steam bucks", then the items wouldn't be even 25% of their prices.
>>61184964>where did the money go?Israel.
>>61185829>>61192469while the cosmetic junkies are retards, so are you guys for not realising that all this shit was happening on third party apps, where they were buying, selling, opening lockboxes etc and were cashing out on THOSE apps for hard-currency.Do a little research anons jesus christ. It was money laundering and NFT-tier finance scams.
hey man just buy steam decks and sell them on ebay lmao
>>61184964>where did the money go? did all of the "value" just evaporate?its fundamentally illiquid market, you cannot move high quantity at top price without huge discounts
>>61192469>they can't even transfer into real money?there are off-platform 3rd party marketplaces where you can trade using escrow service
I don't know about knives but I have this kinda feeling that I should sell all my reds now that are 10-20x up.They're definitely release a new update to fuck up even more the market and crash reds. I have some guns that went from $3 to $70.The only thing stopping me to do it is that they're Factory New 0.00 or 0.000 and I like them and use them to play, otherwise skintards could probably even extra for the conditions.
I'm happy atleast.I can get a knife now
It’s 2025 and people killed themselves over golden knife skins
