that guy saying "Dogecoin > Bitcoin" on Feb 13th 2014

i wonder if buying Dogecoin on that day and holding until today worked out better than buying Bitcoin on that day and holding until day

anyone bothered to check?

say someone put $10,000 into Dogecoin or Bitcoin on Feb 13 2014, what would they have now?

For Bitcoin (BTC)

On Feb 13 2014 the closing price of Bitcoin was about $605.24.

$10,000 / $605.24 ≈ 16.52 BTC

If today’s price is ~$112,462 (according to the latest quote) then 16.52 × $112,462 ≈ $1,857,000

So, an investment of ~$10k in Bitcoin back then would be worth on the order of about $1.85 million (assuming all else held constant).

For Dogecoin (DOGE)

Historical data for Dogecoin on exactly Feb 13 2014 is very sparse. One source indicates on Feb 13 2014 it had a price of about $0.000033 USD.

With $10,000 / $0.000033 ≈ 303,030,303 DOGE

If today’s price is ~$0.1989 each then 303,030,303 × $0.1989 ≈ $60,300,000

So, if that estimate is accurate, ~$10k invested in Dogecoin then would be worth on the order of $60 million — but see Caveats below.

Caveats & important notes

The Dogecoin historical price for exactly Feb 13 2014 is unclear and data may be unreliable or incomplete.

Cryptocurrency prices are highly volatile, and past performance does not guarantee future results.

This doesn’t account for transaction fees, taxes, wallet issues, lost keys, etc.

These are simple “buy and hold” scenarios; real life may differ (selling, timing, etc).
