Serious question: Why is there so much hype (even meme hype) over XRP and why do so many people own it when it never goes anywhere?

I'm pretty new to crypto, but it feels like XRP just sits there in its price range and doesn't do anything. Like it had it's big pump a long time ago and then fell and now it just travels horizontally despite constant hype and millions of people owning it. What gives?
