How long until grocery store, which are basically subsidized by the food stamp program, going to be forced tosell groceries at reasonable prices again? They aren't going to be able to pull their "two for the price of three" for ground beef for much longer. It was just $3/lb not long ago and not you're lucky to find it for $7/lb. I noticed those shelves are staying stocked and people aren't buying.
I don't think it has hit then yet but I give it until this weekend when they start slashing prices.2ako8s

The shutdown won't last long enough for it to have an effect on grocers.
Tomorrow is election day, once that passes the Democrats will have no reason to keep the government shut down.

I tried to discuss this and the Jannies banned me for it. They don't like discussion of the food stamp situation, even though it's economically relevant. Since you faggots are all hand-wringing liberals, you should appreciate that the truth is completely anti-corporate. Criticizing SNAP is not some pro-Trump talking point. Anyway...

>It was just $3/lb not long ago and not you're lucky to find it for $7/lb.
Not just the grocery stores Anon, but the food suppliers. They've literally been sued for price fixing. Of course they circulate stories that it's some virus affecting supply or Ukraine or blah blah bullshit. https://farmaction.us/2023/10/12/food-price-fixing-is-still-rampant-dojs-agri-stats-lawsuit-could-change-that/

But yes, around 12% of the US population receives SNAP benefits. The food suppliers specifically lobby to keep the program alive and allow them to purchase junk food. SNAP is partially a way for working class people to pay taxes to then subsidize the purchase of Oreos and Coca Cola by people who won't work: https://mises.org/mises-wire/how-food-industry-lobbyists-keep-food-stamp-gravy-train-going

If the shutdown continues then stores are just going to go out of business. Most middle class people I know get food delivered nowadays so I'm convinced all brick and mortar stores are funded by food stamps.

So no I don't think food is going down in price. I think with competition dying out food deliver services (like Walmart) are going to jack up their prices further. Farmers markets might make a killing if so, but many city dwellers don't have farmers markets so it's not enough for big e-grocers to care.
