Finally Chainlink gets the first oracle failure since inception, right before smartcon xD, never do I want to hear that Chainlink is the superior Oracle ever again

First of all: there is no evidence this is related to Chainlink.

Second of all: even if this was related to Chainlink, the oracles worked as expected. Not a hack.

Chainlink is the truth.

Oh boy, I'm sure it's actually Chainlink this time and not another pajeet tier implementation that violates 10 best practices or some retarded 3rd party mechanism! Can't wait to see the post-mortem.

I dug a bit deeper, it was not the base pair of eth/usd but the wrsETH (rsETH/ETH) pair price which was falsely reported. Apparently moonwell uses the base price feed from chainlink to then multiply and scale with another oracle to pull the wrsETH price, that was the fault point probably.

So in essence, it was either the 2nd oracle that was wrong or someone manipulated the wrsETH price

ill explain this quick and ez because shitting on whatever new fud angle the brownoid fags in the fuddie groupchat came up with is always fun for me, while making them seethe:
so
wrsteth is not a native link supported data feed
moonwell used a shitty pricing mechanism with bad adapter logic on wrsteth that showed 5.8m instead of 3k
if they had used the usual link eth feed instead of trying to run whatever scam they're trying to do with their badly adapted garbage, exploit wouldnt have been possible

time for you brain-damaged fudcucks to go figure out something else to try and spam this week, since this is dead and "being able to choose your build rewards is actually bad" died today as well

or just kys, the world would be a better place for it if you did
>>
This is what happens when everyone goes to party in NYC for SmartCon, no one is left to manage the oracle control center. Bound to happen
>>
>>61254738
>wrsteth is not a native link supported data feed
this
>>
>>61254431
you actually have no idea what you're talking about which is good, because the people knowing the technicals won't switch off chainlink for something that wasn't even their fault lol
>>
>>61254738
And it was probably (almost certainly) an inside job by the same pajeet faggot at moonwell who set up the shitty system.
>>
>be retard
>take a chainlink oracle
>set it up so it connects to a custom source
>edit the source
>AHAHAHHA LOOK CHAINLINK ORACLE FAILED CHAINLINK BTFO PLEASE SWITCH TO OUR PRODUCT INSTEAD!!
>>
>>61254809
so what is the point of oracles if you can fuck up the source and still exploit shit?
>>
>>61254843
What's the point of transportation companies if you can fuck up the cargo they transport?
>>
>>61254843
well its dev tool provision. What happened was more like, they used functions that were reserved to manipulate the price for non-critical things and are advised as such by chainlink in the toolkit and the moonwell team for some reason decided to hook-in their own price lookup at the multiplier step

>>
>>61254875
Lmao fuddies on suicide watch
>>
>>61254894
The one they used for the wrsETH feed, which Chainlink doesn't provide.
>>
>>61254894
I don't know where they pull the wsrETH price, but the moonwell devteam is literally sleeping rn while their liquidity pools are getting drained, literal bankrun is happening rn because theres no communication from them
>>
>>61254904
>which Chainlink doesn't provide.
this is wrong, but from what I can tell they don't use the datafeed chainlink has which is curious. maybe they wanted more speed because im pretty sure chainlink doesn't have a datastream of it, which would be faster
>>
>>61254945
>this is wrong
So link to the wrsETH feed provided by Chainlink.

>pretty sure chainlink doesn't have a datastream of it
Moonwell isn't connected to any datastreams, only data feeds.
>>
>>61254958
https://data.chain.link/feeds/base/base/wrseth-eth-exchange-rate

I think its that one unless I'm wrong. Their own feed def hasn't reported anything wrong at least from the history
>>
>Get the derived price from the Oracle
>Then do a 2 step multiplication factor from the derived price from 2 different datapoint retrievals based on magic internet money
>The 5.813 Octillion per Eth return was at the derived price tranch before 2 step multiplication was applied per feed diagnostics
So it happened at step 4 of picrel instead of step 5 or 6?

That's wrsETH, not wrstETH.

And it's not a USD feed, as is referenced in OP.

woops nvm then
>>
>>61254999
I just read, they got hacked 2 time before already due to incompetence

>In December 2024, Moonwell lost $320,000 in a flash loan exploit after the attacker targeted its USDC lending contract.

>On October 10, when crypto prices crashed, an exploit on its contract on Base led to a loss of over $1.7M.

If this is true and is the ethos of Chainlink...why do they so heavily support Ethereum and chains like Avalanche?

Ethereum Classic is "the truth" in this sense. Chainlink should be making a statement and supporting more building on ETC...

Imagine a sound CCIP bridge from Ethereum to Ethereum Classic...

Or no...I guess we're better of focusing on all the VC chains where financial trickery is being used to capture a massive share of the network....

>>
>>61254194
The first publicly known Chainlink oracle failure was when Thomas Hodges accidentally updated the XAG/USD feed used by Synthetix to provide XAU/USD values, which also revealed that they weren't even using a multisig. Synthetix lost $60k something.
The biggest misreport was LUNC/USD during the UST depeg to Venus, $14.4M lost.
>>
>>61255800
That wasn't an oracle failure, that was oracle user error.
As contract operator, you're an oracle user. You're not an oracle.
>>
>>61254738
