people on /biz/ are advocating that you do your own electrical work on your house instead of hiring an electrician. just watch some youtube videos about electrical wiring and you're good to go. this is what they're saying

>>61318503I work in property management. We had a problem at one of our new residential properties that the previous owners had rented to people who started a weed farm and stole utilities. The gas and electric companies had cut off the supplies by “capping” the meters with a simple device that cuts them off. We called out a qualified gas engineer and I met him at the property. He was able to uncap the gas meter by simply removing the cap with his bare hands. I asked if he could do the electric one too as that had the exact same cap. He replied>oh sorry I’m not qualified to touch the electric meter you’ll have to call out someone with xyz qualificationI asked “will anything bad happen if I pull off the cap myself?”>um, no I guess notSo I pulled off the cap and electricity was restored. The point of my rambling story is that a lot of the work skilled electricians/gas specialists do is actually incredibly easy but they hide behind nonsense regulations, qualifications and jargon so that they can charge through the nose for their services
>>61318525It's a liability thing. Sure, YOU may be smart enough to handle electricity making sure the circuit is unpowered, you're insulated, and not soaking wet wearing your tinfoil hat and gloves. But there are 110IQ retards out there who will do that. That's who the regulations are there to protect. You really can learn to do basic bitch wiring and electrical stuff by watching youtube for a couple days. It's not THAT complicated. It's just a little risky. Personally, I can afford a real electrician, so I would just pay one if I needed it. Better to have someone to blame if it's fucked up rather than be to blame myself.
>>61318503I wired an entire electrical panel and a fucking meter myself and it got approved by the electrical authorityIt's not that hard just watch a few videos
