>The Nasdaq 100 declined 2.4%. Nvidia erased a more than 5% gain. The VIX, Wall Street's carefully followed index of stock volatility, surpassed 26. The increased volatility occurred immediately before the expiration of an estimated $3.1 trillion in notional options on Friday.

Can someone explain the JPY to me? I don't understand while it's still dumping, not only right now even though it usually gains when the market dump, but in general. From what I gather, there is a huge shift right now unseen since the 90's, where Japan/Japan's funds are now stopping throwing free money to the rest of the world to buy foreign bonds and shit, and instead they're bringing that money back home. On top of this, the BoJ also intends to raise its rates.
Those two (huge) events should make the JPY gain value, instead it's dropping. Why?
I'm not complaining, I like to buy figgies and travel there like every 2 or 3 years, but still. Pic I took of my latest buy.

the evidence is actually clear that it does and if you use your brain for 2 seconds you can extrapolate more. every transportation job will be replaced, then every customer service job, accounting, then engineers, robotics will replace blue collar work... it keeps getting better and there is a massive runway for improvement just by building more chips, and another by digitizing more information. ai bearishness is the fool's position. it's the greatest achievement of mankind and the most important breakthrough in the history of civilization.

>there will always be a market
Sure you can trade blowjobs with other people. The economy in general will to entirely automated if we get AI on par with human intelligence. There's literally no reason to have any person doing any kind of management. There's no reason to have a stock market. There's no reason to have workers. The government related market economy we have right now isn't in place because people in charge want to be nice, it simply is the most effective system around and excesses of the wealthy and powerful are tolerated because of the general surplus this system creates. AI management and AI labor doesn't need any of that. The rich will stop being rich just like the workers will stop being workers.

That's your bull pitch? A literal fantasy utopia that literally every single powerful and wealthy person on the planet has a personal an vested interest in opposing?

They're not, and they won't be any time soon. But self-driving cars are a joke compared to mass-production of robots capable of fine motor control. Current cutting-edge robots can still barely walk without tripping over.
>3 years ago noone even thought that it would even be possible to have a general purpose model good enough to be human level conversational.
That's a straight up lie, and the fact of the matter is that they're still not really capable of having conversation. Their thought and creativity are too limited, their context too small, the illusion is inevitably shattered by the sanitized drivel they spill out.
>the truth is that even without AGI we are only beginning to tap into the potential of the models that already exist
How can speculation possibly be the truth? Many people have good reason to believe most of the potential has already been extracted from LLMs.

maybe tariffs were responsible for the 150% increase, not customer demand

Yes, I'm familiar with neural networks. You're right that the volume of data and the compute to process it were the gamechangers during this recent rise of LLMs. Unfortunately, we've pretty much run out of data for the time being, and neither hardware nor energy can advance quickly enough to maintain the rate of progress LLMs have enjoyed up until now. There is clearly a need for a qualitative breakthrough, so where is it?
>who knows what sort of tools quantum computing will yield
Quantum computing is not only insanely difficult to scale, to the point where you'd need several major breakthroughs in several fields for meaningful advancement, but even when it's finally at a usable scale it would have very specific usages, it would be better at specific things than traditional computing and far worse at others.

The issue with chess is that there's limited amount of information and you have a long time to make the moves. The human can always look at the board state and understand it and take and give feedback.

An actual AGI system playing "Global Economy" will be able to handle impossible amounts of data in real time. Even if one can't handle it all we can just create more instances of the AGI model to split up the work load exactly like we do with the actual economy right now by dividing up various tasks except the AGI have perfect trust and zero personal profit incentives so they can make all sorts of large scale decisions that humans never would.

That's basically what the pitch is. That's what's "just around the corner totally just me bro please buy my graphics cards"

the amount of compute to be delivered next year is more than what is available today. we still need 50-100x that before training is maxed out. no breakthrough needed. and information is infinite, we just need to find ways to encode it and feed it into the models. we're in the primitive stages of that as well. that's all we need, we haven't hit any walls and are a long way away from encountering that and we already have usable tools. the future is so bright. and this isn't the end. we'll find even better ways to train or code computers to make them even better, but that's gravy. what we have now is already enough, we just need to keep etching silicon.

>Regardless most jobs dont need speed like that
Jobs typically only exist if its possible to do them. Its a case of induced demand. If lathes don't exists, there's no demand for lathing to be done. Once you invent the lathe, you can now lathe things which creates demand for things to be lathed and now there's demands for specific kinds of precision.

That's basically the situation we're looking at with a hypothetical AGI machine. It'll most likely have such insane performance that the entire economy would have to be restructured around it existing.

And for that reason I'm out.

>Prediction for what the markets will do now is based 10 years in the future
OK, but what does this do to the stock market today? It doesn't matter how great the technology is if it can't make money within 2 or 3 years, it will not continue to pump higher under a promise of money 10 years from now.

This is just a meaningless future prediction at the end of the day, the debate is whether it does mass-replacement of jobs right now or 10 years from now, or likely a slow trickle that will be significant in 10 years. This slow trickle would mean companies still can't hold their high valuations and bring in more investor money, the money is already invested into said companies but they have to wait 10 years for the product? Not good.

A crash is just a capital rotation from speculative future-investing into protection of wealth, it's a rotation. They don't matter in the long run, they're literally part of the system.
>Building a pyramid
>Pyramid starts to get really tall, more blocks doesn't do the same thing it used to, more blocks needed for same % growth as before
>But more blocks are necessary to keep building
>Move blocks to new pyramid and build that one instead
>Foundation of old pyramid is fixed or blocks are used for a new pyramid
They do and don't matter, it's what the system does and the capital must flow. Either old companies will cut out the fat during a crash or they'll be sold off, or sell of their meaningful products / patents to other companies.
>2big 2fail
This has never actually been the case, companies sell off and merge and shit like that all the time, it's just a catchphrase. A "failure" can be your company selling off its right and factories to make batteries, for example, and on paper the company would still look fine but now some other company makes said batteries.

>The government will just bail out all the important shit
Bail it out and sell the means of production to some other company who will hopefully do it better the next time.

he has only gotten away with this mess because europe is scared of russia and all the asian countries are scared of china
if anything the fact everyone has gone along with his incompetent ramblings means they would have gone along with building up rare earth reserves and then striking together
imagine china being hit by the EU, japan, korea and ASEAN at the same time, with industry relocations underway and stockpiles of rare earths as well as increased mining and refining where possible, THAT would have been crippling
whatever deal they negotiate now won't do shit, china will recover eventually
