>What actually gives any weight to the gold silver ratio?
If nothing else, the fact that there is about a 20:1 SGR in the earth's crust. Since they're both very useful metals outside of the financial world, specific uses shouldn't affect the ratio much. What HAS affected the ratio is the abandonment of silver by governments from the 19th century onwards. For various reasons Britain, America and others switched from silver/bimetal to the gold standard. While they eventually abandoned the gold standard too, by that time silver had already faded from popularity as an investment and as money.

I think it would be fun if one day, someone bought out a few floors of a Manhattan skyscrape and opened up some sort of museum about the history of fiat, Wall Street culture and all the market crashes. Imagine everything you could display.

>as you say, silver fell out of popularity.
not entirely true

it's about as abundant and has about as much industrial demand as a number of other much cheaper metals. Mercury is one I like to watch. About as abundant as silver, with about as many uses. It tends to sell for 1/10th the price of silver.

I would guess just based on comparable industrial metals that about 90% of silver price is investment and speculation. If that went to zero, silver should be somewhere around $25 per pound

Silver has far more industrial applications than mercury. While mercury is slightly more scarce than silver the industrial demand is also much lower. You’re talking out your ass m8.
>>
>>61465222
I don't think silver will ever actually go down 90% to levels of mercury or bismuth or whatever.

just saying that silver is special, like gold. Most of its value is as money even now.
>>
>>61465175
>we have no reason to assume their relative values should be roughly equal.
Maybe, but the ratio has hovered somewhere around 20:1 for much of recorded history. In ancient Rome it was 8:1, but it seems a hell of a coincidence that the ratio kept getting closer to 20:1 as mining expanded and more sources were discovered (namely, the New World).
>>
What is this feeling that I feel.
I knew it would happen, but yet it still feels surreal to watch silver climb like this.

as IQ loves to point out, most silver mined is NOT used in industry.

the same is NOT true of mercury. We don't mine the stuff for investments or jewelry. It's 100% industrial.

Only about 15% of the silver mined every year goes towards investors/speculators. The price action absolutely is from industrial demand grinding against inadequate production capacity.

Chinas positioning makes much more sense though, showing it is covertly undervalued and build infrastructure and stockpiles around this premise.

Copper? and go down with the rest of the market?
>>
>>61465551
This is worthwhile for the small investment, but please don't expect the kind of pump we're getting from silver. I have a lot of 1p and 2p coins, just taken from circulation. Not sure if US cents are still easily harvestable from circulation now you've ended them, but that's where I got mine as a bong. Even just doing that when I did (a while ago now) paying 1p or 2p for a coin was already a profit, by weight.
>>

Only if you're buying copper bullion, which is frankly retarded. There's a reason it's one of the three precious metals. It's useful and easily workable for a variety of purposes.

I think 90% of the price comes from investment based on price comparisons to other industrial metals that are just as rare, just as much in demand, and MUCH cheaper.

yes

as I mentioned, we used far more silver on other things like photography back then, and we didn't produce nearly as much silver in general.

so increases in some areas just replace former uses, and increases in population just keep pace with increased production.

the silver usage now is not much different from the 80's as percentages go. Now we use 100% of production, and back then we used 100% of production.

contrary to what IQ says, production and demand have been pretty even for centuries. We were not running a surplus back then and we're not running one now

Maybe for burgoids still burning oil like it’s the year 1920. Both of those are critical national development products for China who completely lack oil and are essentially forced to electrify everything if they want to get energy autarky. Other countries around the world are beginning to see this advantage too and want the tech so they stop being completely at the mercy of oil Jews.

Has anyone stacked gold in the form of gold wire? Is it available anywhere without an absurd premium? I'm into ball stretching and it just occurred to me since gold is 2.5x as dense as my stainless steel ball weights I could just wrap a few loops of gold wire around my nuts for the same hang but with much less bulk (and much more elegance).

I was looking at tungsten wire for this as well but there appear to be a few health concerns associated with prolonged exposure to it. I also have a few generic gold ozs I wouldn't mind having reforged into a locking ball weight but I presume the cost to get that done would be better spent on more stacking.

>>
>>61466136
>Are they worth getting if you can find them below spot?
Sure. If possible you should stick to .835 and .900, but as long as the content is .500+ it's fine if the price is good.
Post 1920 UK junk is my least favorite, but .720 gulden, .680 Turin or .640 austrian schillings are quite nice and recognizable. Simply avoid .400 or lower billon, like norwegian or swedish low purity Ore.

>Things might get so wild that absolute fucking stacklets with like forty ounces make it or it turns out the make it stack was like 10k ounces

It’s absolutely the former. If things are going to turn around my bet is the govt will actually start shilling silver at say $200-$300 cuz you are going to need probably half the Americans population being able to obtain a minimum of 10 ounces to have a soft landing in this reset where things don’t go SHTF. Zoomers and millennials are so disenfranchised about everything I don’t even think they would mind if the govt says, you are starting from square one, your 401k and savings are gone, but going forward it’ll be like it was in the 60’s where it was easy to save and get ahead cuz we had sound money. But you’re gonna need a large base of people with say 10-20 ounces as a nut to keep them slightly above water before they can continue working and create some savings. And that 10 ounces, as we know is equal to about a half years worth of savings historically.

There’s just no fucking way that a sui stack is 300-400 ounces. That would be ridiculously anachronistic? Is that the right word? Wouldn’t make any sense based on history.

It’s nearly impossible to stack more than 500 ounces in this modern world. To think that it’ll only be the maybe 200 people in America with 10,000 ounces of silver that will make it is nonsense

Meanwhile ChadXi's CCP told chinks to load up on silver numerous times this year. The war over silver was lost by the West before it could even begin.
Our only copium is to know we still have boomies' silver to loot here, in most countries they don't even have that. Imagine a laotian or a congolese wanting to stack silver, just RIP.

1922-1926 - 50% Silver, 50% Copper
1927-1946 - 50% Silver, 40% Copper, 5% Zinc, 5% Nickel

I think there could be a real silver fever hitting China soon. Those videos with the people on the street flexing their piles of 15kg bars did numbers. Chinaman got lots of savings since they are very spending averse as a culture and they have nowhere to park it. Their real estate is blowing up, their stock market is mad max tier, bonds just lol lmao, where else can it go? Asians have always loved flexing their shinies too.

Export controls sure but they can still import unless the Jews decide to wise up and stop giving it all to them and do their own export controls from London and COMEX which they seem to not care about doing for some baffling reason? Maybe they are buying time to find some evil Jewish way to clear their mega short positions or do their next pearl harbour or 9/11

this is what our mining district looks like
each one of those rectangles on the right is a silver mine. Thousands of them

I own three, One I inherited and two I bought.

they're cheap. Probably have tons of silver in them still, but the EPA makes mining unaffordable at today prices
basically impossible to mine without millions for bonds and lawyers
>>
>>61466277
also a fair number of those mines are owned by major mining companies. Newmont owns the largest share, with ASARCO/Grupo Mexico owning the next largest number

there's a shitload of silver here, and mining companies know it.

mining companies don't own worthless mines. It costs money to own a silver mine, I pay almost $127 every year for taxes on each of my mines.

there's silver there. potentially a lot of silver. Tons. maybe thousands of tons.
>>
>>61466152
Ur coping. Its easy af to get 500 oz if you have a job. For the longest time silver was around $20, thats just $10000 saved over the past 20 years. Literally anyone could do that. Normies save for down-payments and 401k. The meme about normies not having $1000 is misleading, they have wealth but its mostly in home equity and 401ks.
Even low tier niggers on welfare have $20k+ in gold bling jewelry and designer clothes.
Its funny because niggers probably profitted more from pms than normie whites because they've been hoarding gold jewelry since the 1950s.
Gold chains are a staple for niggers, and old black men have a lot of gold. They use them to secure loans at pawnshops very often so they can "make a play" and buy drugs in bulk, flip them quickly and get dey chains back.

Indeed, they certainly do. At least you can get some copper out then too if you do refine them. Been debating doing it honestly, but laziness wins and they're still fun to play with. Yes, even in Bonglandia I can source the required supplies easily enough still.

I've got a decent silver collection just from poking around the old mine dumps and smelter piles.

it's crazy how much silver we produced. They were using it to solder pipes because it was cheaper than lead here back in the day

>Could I realistically buy up a couple old mines to sell to the big mining companies when they become profitable to mine?
yes, but I've been waiting for 40 years and that hasn't happened in my life. Not sure it will ever happen.
>>
>>61466298
That's 30k now, much less achieveable. When you talk about normies I agree, however under 25s are justed bro, absolutely rekt, wouldn't be surprised if the majority of them had 1k in the bank, maybe 3-5k max average. As for older ones yeah they have equity, but it's pretty much unusable, 401k? get gigaraped trying to withdraw which they will never do. House equity? I suppose, but a lot of bank jews are evil about remortgaging and when your application comes to schlomos bankstein the approvers desk saying you want to buy 100k of physical silver there is a good chance they tell you to get fucked.
>>
>>61466318
>they were using it to solder pipes because it was cheaper than lead here back in the day

They still do that today, copper pipe solder is usually 5% silver.
>>
>>61466318
the mining companies usually just wait for people to die or fall behind on their taxes and then they buy the mines at auction for dirt cheap.

it happens every year. That's how I got mine.
>>
>>61466313
Where do you find these coin holders?
>>
>>61466330

>>
>>61466315
they used to say we needed $50 silver to mine, but that was back in the late 1990's

Now I'd guess we'd need $100 silver or higher to mine. Not impossible, but we're not there yet afaik.
I've seen new gold mines start up recently, but the silver miners are still waiting for the price to rise
>>
>>61466352
also our last silver mine shut down in 1997. One of the largest silver mines in the US.

We're not super far off from being profitable. It's only been 28 years since we were mining thousands of tons of silver per year.

>>
>>61466407
yes, it also appears they're only auctioning the lien, so the owner has 3 years to pay you back

if they don't pay you back they then do a live auction at the courthouse for the actual property. Meaning you could win the tax lien and still not end up with the mine.

this is a lot more complicated than when I bought mines almost 20 years ago. But if you want to buy one check with local real estate agents because people do sell them sometimes and they don't cost much. You can't build on them so they're not valuable.

Silver is silver but comex is melting 999 (i think bars over 10oz) - which is why junk silver is not getting refined in the states and premiums are so low. Buy and hold junk but grab as much of the 999 bars as you can.

If you think slimes will ever be worth a lot (lmao) - the price of gold and silver will make Chinese rich and i guarantee you they have vastly more metals than you. You’re competing for women with the dudes that have vastly more resources.
>>
>>61466800
*dimes not slimes.

Also: yes, march of the dimes is discouraging you from buying 999 and 999 is the feed stock for comex bars and junk silver is sidelined by refiners. Every 10oz silver bar you buy is less fuel for refiners to melt into comex bars.

Since refiners are not buying silver: now is a generational opportunity to buy and hold junk silver (but its a 5 year play in my opinion)
>>
>>61466804
>opportunity to buy and hold junk silver
Yep. Ppl have to be stupid to think 90% us coinage won't be in demand at some point.
Much of it has been melted down over the years. Much of the old "boomer hoards" have been sold long ago.
It's not as plentiful as it used to be and will only grow more scarce.
>>
>>61466804
If I lived in America i would be devouring the insanely under spot cheap junk. Getting fudded out because of temporary refiner shit is wild. Americans so fucking spoiled and still find reasons to cry about, absolutely absurd.

>>
>>61466820
I’m telling you it’s only side lined right now because refiners have back room deals with comex to melt 999 bars into comex bars so comex can fulfil physical delivery orders. Meaning comex is sacrificing your entire national retail silver stockpile to keep the derivative system going. That is VERY dangerous. And once all the 999 is melted what is getting melted next? Obviously junk. So junk is cheap now but in 5 years (or less depending on how this plays out) the discount when selling 925 and junk will evaporate. That’s why i am trying to buy as much cheap 925 and junk as i can right now because i know that Canadian 999 silver will end up drained to America, melted into comex bars, and shipped out of the country leaving a retail shortage of 999 in Canada as well.
>>
>>61466832
Same here. And Canada if my prediction is correct will see our retail silver diverted to America to meet comex 999 demand and then our 925 and junk will end up selling at a premium once the shortage hits.

Actually I've been on the sidelines on whether to buy more of anything.
But I was already fairly convinced that going all in on 90% was my next move.
I love 90% silver coinage anyways. It's beautiful to have and to hold.
>>
>>61466852
Buy it distressed. If the premium is the same as 999 obviously buy 999 but if your coin shop has a basement full of junk they dont know what to do with start liquidating it for them at a discount.
>>
>>61466858
I'm going to start price hunting for it.
Scouting for the lowest premium 90% will be my new hobby.

name a continent that doesnt have countries that minted 90/10 silver coins.
999 is sought after in industry because it doesn't have the overhead of removing the 10% copper. everything else is short and distort tactics.
