People that left Poland for the UK or Estonia for Finland used to be service workers, lower skill industrial workers, truck drivers etc. the wage pressure was enormous on these workers. When they got EU passports they could literally 5x their salary when doing the same low-skill work abroad, and it was facilitated by the EU. Nowadays there's really no point because these economies have stagnated since 2008 while the Eastern European ones have grown. Now it only makes sense if you're a really sought after specialist.
