How do you pay in Japan
>>

All these options and yet not a single crypto coin in sight. It's over
>>
Google and Apple Pay works anywhere you see that logo on the bottom right, which is like 95% of stores

So long as you steer clear of cash, you’ll be fine. Japan is truly living in the future.
>>
It does feel like living in the 90s whenever I see Visa and Jewpal as the only payment options. SEA/Nippon really is ahead in so many areas.

Same way I pay for anything, cash.

Can someone explain to the what the fucking point of Paypay and apple pay and shit like that is? Just use a fucking credit card. You probably have better scam protection with one anyway. Why do you need to load money onto your prepaid phone app and then pay with that? Why not just, ya know, hand the guy/machine your cash or touch-pay with a credit card?

Tapping credit card works. Suica works. your iphone is a suica card you can recharge any time, extremely convenient.
Cash is needed occasionally, you'll need to use an ATM to get some, but 95% of the time you can use a credit card these days. Get a good travel one with no foreign transaction fees.

I use Google Pay for 100% of my real life credit card transactions now desu.
Just much easier than using the card, which might be scanned by the cashier and then later used without your knowledge. (Happens all the time abroad)
Other apps like AliPay or so are popular in China where they use them basically the same way we use Google or Apple Pay. Super practical too, since you can instantly transfer money to others just via QR code.
I bought mangos of a truck yesterday while being stuck in a traffic jam. The lady threw me the fruits and I scanned the QR code and paid from 4 meters away. Very practical.

The big problem is that every fucking country in Asia insists on having its own payment service so a Cambodian going to South Korea needs to use X or Y, which require you to be South Korean, the South Korean going to Japan may or may not be able to use his payment services and the Chinese are basically living on a digital island.
That's why these chains need to be able to handle 300 different services so the Singaporean and the Laotian can shop at the 7/11 in Osaka.

>Paypay and apple pay
You connect your card to your phone so that you don't have to carry your around like an 80 year person. Your phone becomes your card
>>
They really love those QR code ways of paying. To each its own but what a fucking waste of time. Asking the cashier for the qr code, taking your phone, the camera... sometimes I would see old people paying that way and being so fucking slow. If you don't want to use a credit card, just use a fucking a debit card and be done with it.

yes, the pennsylvania interchange is surrounded by lush forests and mountains instead of a hyperdense urban sprawl

For me it's nanaco, the only logo which represents me and my Folks
>>
>>61522192
If I use Apple pay, isn't there a conversion to yen fee per transaction? My bank is 5$
>>
>>61522192
As someone living in Japan, I unironically hope cash never goes away. There's a vibe I don't like with digital money.
>>
cash, everything else is gay

I don't bring my wallet with me anywhere because since covid I only use Google Pay

I don't see why I'd want to lug a wallet around everywhere
