>So maybe don’t be the last person holding the bag.
Never selling, dipshit.
>>
>>61528241
Because they're not investing. They have no plans on selling. They're putting money into an idea. It might be that precious metals are real currency unlike FIAT, that once the apocalypse happens they'll actually have sound money, that silver is a store of value and that it'll totally go up a lot like gold and stay high up at which point they'll simply buy even more of it.
They aren't investors, they're here to sell you on their hobby, political/economic hot takes and basically just show off their feels good physical investment that they own in their house next to a bunch of guns or anime figurines.
It's the equivalent of buying penny stocks (silver) while actual stocks (gold) do well over the last 14 years that it took for silver to beat the ATH and you still won't sell because again you're not actually trying to make money or you'd have bought an asset that actually performs well.
>>
>>61528348
Name an asset that's immune to crabbing and crashing. And I don't mean in hindsight, I mean a guarenteed safe bet looking forward.

21st century industrial demand changes the circumstances quite a bit
>>
>>61528422
Let’s be serious: gold and silver prices are largely derived from them being perceived as storages of value. For gold, 12 percent is used in industry, the rest sits in vaults. You expect the industry to buy your bags? That’s fine, best of luck. But you don’t know when this party ends. You might get another 20 percent, it crashes, and then you recoup your initial investment in 2045.

From what I know? You were dumb to invest in metals when the market is booming both in the 1980s and in the 2010s. I suppose you think the market is going to crash? It might, it might not. All I know is that you probably have a large portion of your savings riding on a single asset. Good luck with that.

>>61528542

>>
>>61528538
>where the price is completely untethered from the demand
You realize that the price has for decades been determined by a fractional reserve system where paper contracts levered 300 to 1 traded back and forth between banks right? The price was not determined by supply/demand. Today the price is being influenced by actual physical demand. The price is now becoming tethered to demand. The spike is the commodity being repriced to reality.
>>
>>61528261
I thought that all the banks were going to collapse if Silver went this high?
>>
>>61528542
Because there are physical shortages of the metal. If you force the price down (which is what was done in 1980 and 2011) you will make the shortages worse. Simple supply and demand. The Chinese and the Indians will slurp up any discount you give them. Silver is probably the most critical commodity there is. Whether you want to build consumer electronics or smart bombs, you need silver.

>Are you not buying silver based on its properties associated with it being a storage of value?
Demand for silver is growing. It's a critical input in all electronic devices. Meanwhile supply has lagged as a result of an artificial price ceiling imposed on it over the last 4 decades. Because of this price ceiling there has been a lack of investment in new mine supply. The shortages are becoming apparent and there is a race to secure supply. In the meantime it takes 10-15 years on average for a new mine to come online so supply issues won't be solved quickly. Tie that with a paradigm shift happening in the financial system where the East is moving to commodity backed currencies making Gold and Silver collateral you've got a perfect storm and the price is starting to reflect that reality.
>Elon has to make Tesla a $8 trillion dollar company or he doesn’t get money. I trust his autism more than yours.
How much silver does he need to secure to do this? Imagine he failed to do this because of silver shortages. Kek, you'd be seething.

>>61528409
Yes, I want to own the breakout of the 50 year long cup and handle with a cup and handle in the handle during a period with strong fundamentals for real assets.
>>
>>61528807
As I alluded to before the price has been set by a fractional reserve system where naked paper contracts were passed back and forth between banks. They effectively removed supply and demand from the pricing scheme. Something like 3-400 paper contracts to 1 physical. They artificially inflated the supply on the exchange to increase volatility and to allow the price to be capped/controlled. The point has been to keep the price of gold and silver low to make the Dollar look more attractive and keep interest rates low. Like any fractional reserve system it works until people start demanding delivery of the underlying asset. This is what we're seeing now. The Chinese and Indians are buying up silver from Western exchanges and demanding delivery.
>>
>>61528850

Severe market shock from the the decoupling of gold from the dollar and multiple oil crises (and the Iranian revolution) in the 1970s led to inflation in the 20% range between 1979 and 1981 and people who read wizard of ounce one too many times panic-buying into silver.
Keep in mind "Silver is a store of value" anons, the inflation adjusted price of Silver in 1980 is $125 in today's money.
Out of control inflation is the result of government giving away free money. In 2020 they shut down american business and american jobs (and thus tax revenue), then gave away a trillion dollars that they magicked out of nowhere, printed off two or three checks for Every American and called it a day. This naturally caused an inflation shock probably on par with 1979, panic over which caused the price of silver to spike. And then it fell again.
>>61528712
The melt value of five quarters is irrelevant. They're only worth that much to collectors. You take those to the bank and they're going to deposit $1.25 in your account.
