everybody nowadays is rich, the standard just got changed for example sugar and pepper were worth their weight in gold back then but now, you literally have to pay more if you dont want sugar in your microplastic slop
The actual value of goods changes over time, I bet at one point in human history beads were worth more than gold but you're not rich today for owning a bead necklace
