GTA V, while a major success financially, potentially killed the series as 90% of the people who played it wouldn't have touched online. But the 10% that did made all the money for Rockstar. They went from the top-down POV games to GTA 4 in a little over 8 years time. Now the New World has been built. The frontier isn't about wowing people anymore with big leaps forward. The last time it was is when Xbox 360 and PS3 came out. The frontier of the past 20 years has been how far AAA can exploit and extract money from its consumers by putting in a bare minimum amount of effort.
