I drank some on my 21st birthday and it was good. It's around $250 and I'm considering bringing it as a gift to a host for a NYE party.

Financially speaking, how stupid is this idea?

off you go

>>
>>61558252
Is the host a rapper or some other type of nigger? Not a good idea otherwise. Do the white thing and bring a nice pie.
>>
>>61558252
Krug is better and it's cheaper.
>>
>>61558252
Are you a poorfag? If yes then don't buy it. If you're rich then also don't buy it as a gift to a host, too tacky.

>>61558267
Agreed.
>>
>>61558252
>hey goy! buy my overpriced wine i promise you is more delicious than regular wine although wine tastes like shit anyways
No thanks, schlomo I'll smoke my weed
>>
>>61558252
Whats wrong with VCP?
>>
>>61558252
0 people will remember and care that you bought fancy champagne. If you brought 4 bottles of $10 champagne you'd be more fun and better chance someone gets drunk enough to tolerate you.
>>
>>61558314
based and biblepilled
>>
There are arguably better champagnes for less than half the price. Watch some reviews on YouTube and pick something that sounds interesting. DP isn’t bad though and ultimately who gives a fuck. Don’t buy it for namesake or if you can’t afford it, you should bring something you enjoy and share it with friends. Cheers

I drank wines for 1000+ bucks and still prefer whatever Bubba made on the vineyard with his cousins that year desu.

Just don't think it's worth it beyond "Oh look expensive". Like luxury jewelry.
>>
I heard a real nigga once say wine past $100 a bottle is a waste. There are serious diminishing returns past like $40-$50.
>>
>>61558724
A sommelier friend (worked in a Michelin starred restaurant) explained that X amount goes into bottling and taxes. So subtract your local X from the store price and then go for 25 dollars in actual wine value. Above that it's just about taste.
>>
>>61558709
yea well they still add sulfites as an ingredient. that should tell you everything you need to know about the "quality"
>>
>>61558724
storage and age are big factors a 10 year old $40 from one brand is better than a 2 year old $80 from another
>>
There is a limit to how good food gets. After that you're paying for name, a story or rarity that doesn't actually impact the taste. I've enjoyed 15 dollar champagne Better than 50 dollar bottles because it all depends on your taste at the end of the day.

Love highland Park 12, don't like the 18, love the 21 and the 25 and above don't really taste any 'better' just different. Of course the cost is simply them having to store a barrel for 3 decades plus the wank of the big number.
>>
>>61558861
It sucks that they found out young whiskies are actually tasty and now they're no longer like $25
>>
Honestly, a $60 bottle of Moët is just as good.
>>
>>61558252
If I was going to a party of 25 year olds I would bring a magnum bottle of some random cheaper brand that has a nice looking bottle. A big bottle is cooler than some brand name, there's more to drink, and no partying 20 year old will give a shit about the tiny differences in taste. You can even get a 3L bottle for cheaper than your picrel. If it's a fancy party I would swap for a normal sized Krug (or similar) because Domperi is more of a clubbing champagne than a sipping one.
>>
>>61558252
Bought a 2015 bottle for NYE and I'll be drinking it by myself. It's good and all although you may consider cheaper wine as most of the time theese expensive brands are made to brag mostly.

Bringing one single bottle of dompé makes you look like a foolish tasteless nouveau riche american. It tastes ok and within ten minutes the bottle is gone. Bring a few crates of grand cru from one of these locations. Champagne is to be merrily shared in abundance, not greedily sipped.
>>
>>61558252
As a frog, seriously anything above ~30eurobucks is such diminishing returns it's retarded.
>>
>>61558252
Yes. Tastes like regular cheap champagne.
>>
>>61558724
an expensive bottle is worth it if you drink it when its ready.

Imagine the wretched self-loathing you will feel when a gatecrasher knocks over your ONLY bottle of champagne. The pitiful looks from your fellow partygoers as you dribble a meager half inch into their red cup.

For $250, you can fill a lot of red cups with warm prosecco, Asti Spumante or Crémant de Limoux. Plus you get the high class wire cork and shiny foil so your friends still think you are fancy
>>
Quick aside, is investing in rare liquors a thing? I'm assuming rich people with massive wine cellars aren't actually going to be able to make it through the whole thing.
>>
go with something that will get more mileage at a party like an 18yr scotch
>>
hating dom p is psued. buying dom p to impress someone is tacky. hope this helps
>>
Dumb because the better value is actually better for perrier-jouët.

The issue with Dom is that the good vintages instantly get raided. perrier-jouët has better production and similar quality. Ruinart is also fantastic and they know what they're doing.

Sauce- Geo, Farmkid, Liq Store worker in high income European area.

With that being said just Google best vintage years for champagne.
>>
>>61558295
Krug is also based asf and has its on identification labels so you can look at the bottle history.
>>
>>61561426
You gotta find people are into that kind of thing. However as a former bartender of 10 years in a big city, if you’re gonna drink it yourself make sure you fucking like it cause there is no real difference after the $125-150 mark. That’s your best bang for buck, sure you got a few rare $200 worth bottles but honestly that should be your ceiling. However if you can’t get by on $25 scotch you got no business drinking.
>>
>>61561426
Yes enormous. Booze is probably 3-5% of the 'art and collectables' market which at $1.5tn is only a little smaller than the whole PE industry.

A lot of the volume is bonded, securitised, all the other soulless financialised shit, but of course rich people slurp from their private cellars whilst knowing they are sitting on a solid low-correlation asset.
>>
>>61558252
It's actually shit. Some liquor the high quality stuff if better, champagne is not one of them

The best wine I ever had was apple wine made by my neighbor. Plus, I can't taste the difference between $20 wine and $250 wine anyways.
>>
>>61561629
>i am a little baby and the only flavor i can taste is 'sweet'
>>
>>61561655
I don't really like sweet drinks, I like tart flavors, which is very distinct.
>>
>>61561426
There is definitely a big market for high end wines across the globe. I'm not sure how many people are sitting on wines to sell them for an exuberant amount down the line if that's what you mean by investing. I would think it's more like guys going to auctions, estate sales, whatever, and trying to find price mismatches that they can quickly flip.
I think rich fags who buy wine to keep in their collection don't really give a shit if it makes money or not. It's a hobby and bragging rights for them more than it is capital preservation or net worth growth. At least that's my guess, I have no idea desu
>>
>>61561674
That's due to the high acidity. There are plenty of highly acidic high end wines but you probably don't drink enough wine to pick up on the complexity and nuance at that price point. That's not a diss either, most people can't. If you like tart wines Riesling is a good choice. It's abundant and you can get decent stuff for cheap.

>You're just not sophisticated like me
Faggot.
>>
>>61561797
Ya, I only drink wine a few times a year. The $250 bottle is something my sister only gets on Christmas Eve. She says she can taste the difference.

I really only like Prosecco anyways.

are you worth millions? Bring a $20 bottle of nice looking wine.

based. whenever I visit family in France for the holidays they're drinking champagne all day long.

This. I'll usually just bring a bottle of Mogen David 20 20 from beautiful Westfield NY, usually the Bling Bling Blue Raspberry flavor if I'm really trying to show off.
>>
>>61559954
decent grower champs is still pretty spendy in the US thanks to our kiked post-prohibition 3-tier system. thankfully cremant from loire/alsace/burgundy is still relatively cheap tho it's rare to find anything under $25/750 in my neck of the woods
that said I recently brought a bunch of choya sparkling plum wine to a party and most of the girls there liked it more than the champagne that some other dudes brought lol
it's all such bullshit

Expensive alcohol is s boomer scam. All alcohol does the same thing, gets you drunk. Use better drugs.

> spending $250 on a bottle of sparking white wine
ffs you niggers, I guess you know nothing about wine, let me tell you the rules
> 1. if it tastes good, you drink it
that's it. Sparking dry white wine has to be drank cold, and cold sparking dry white wine tastes pretty much the same no matter what's in it. As long as it's not completely foul or faulty. A $10 bottle of the same kind of wine will taste 99% the same. Champagne is for niggers, snobs, and the maybe 3 people on earth that can actually taste the difference.
You wanna splurge? Get a full bodied red from Piemonte/Bordeaux/Chianti area, hell even a Rioja. You'll see the difference there between a $10 bottle and a $50 one. Unless you're an expert or want to become one, above $50 you're throwing your money away though. Get a $50 Barbaresco and put the rest in SLV/GLD.

holy shit that looks like a terrible hangover
