My wife and I (both 27) are looking for place to have children and build a house. There's a very nice plot of land for 260k (USD) (1350m2, 0.33 acres), including fees. I've saved up 250k and my wife 140k. Can we afford this plot of land? why not buy 5 acres, or even 50 acres with $200k, and be your own contractor building the house for $200k? 40 miles outside of a major city. if you have land, you can have fruit trees, dogs, chickens, free water supply (well or rainwater), privacy, and fresh air.
