We’re literally living in a worse economy since the Great Depressing. Maybe even worse than that. Unemployment may have been higher but what's the point of being employed if you can't make enough money to afford to live on your own
>Home price-to-income ratio
1930s: ~2–3× annual income Today: ~5–6× annual income
>Rent as % of income
1930s: ~15–20%
Today: 30–50%+
>Single income viability
1930s: Often sufficient for housing + food
Today: Often insufficient even with two incomes
>Healthcare costs
1930s: Low out-of-pocket, no insurance gatekeeping
Today: High premiums + deductibles + medical debt risk
>Education cost
1930s: No debt required to work
Today: Student debt often required for middle-class jobs
>Debt load
1930s: Low household debt
Today: High, normalized, structurally required
>Food cost burden (working poor)
1930s: ~20–25% of income
Today: Often 25–40% for low-income households

Like, what the fuck do I even do? What even is the point of working if I can’t ever afford to live by myself?

You are supposed to live with your relatives until your early thirties and make sound financial decisions with your meager salary. It is the new meta

You’re supposed to get shitty bootstraps takes by out of touch 60 year olds and then get told its your fault.
Eventually, this will lead to violence and I am all for it.
