Silver is an abstraction of wealth. Sure it can be used for some real world applications but if its just traded around in physical form, its no different of an abstraction then paper money. The only real difference gold and silver have over paper money is that the supply can not be increased massively at a whim. You may get fucked over if they find a lot more deposits though, like if we ever do space mining profitably. Crypto is supposed to be the best of both worlds here but it has not actually been used to do anything useful yet so its just a wildly fluctuating speculative thing.
