For a job application it asks me for references, should I ask former bosses and teachers for permission to put them down as references first or just put them?
>>61649523If your former jobs were relevant yes, if not it probably doesn't matter
>>61649523Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law
>>61649523I always asked them, but yeah it is a bit awkward
Yes. If you put them down as a reference without letting them know, when new company tries to call reference and the phone doesn't pick up, they will just think you lied. Also you don't want to risk the reference actually answering the phone but forgetting who you were, or mistaking you for someone else. It's an awkward conversation like >>61649607 said but definitely let them know.
>>61649607If the applications due tonight should I just submit it and send an email asking for permission at the same time? What happens if they get the phone call then see the email asking for permission though?
>>61650456I've been in your shoes and did that, I submitted the application before asking for permission. I was also close enough with the people who did my recs to call/text instead of email. With that said considering you have nothing to lose I'd just do it. Worst thing that can happen is you don't get the job.
>>61650466>Worst thing that can happen is you don't get the job. What if they rape me, too?
HR roasties don't bother checking because that would involve doing some level of work
>>61650469idk? Carry pepper spray
>Hey I'm applying for this job. Do you mind being a reference for me?
>>61649523Humiliation ritual
My friend and I just pretend to be eachothers former boss and answer the phone. I talked to some government HR manager for half an hour telling them how amazing my friend was when I was their boss. It fucking worked he got the job
>>61650469that'd be a bonus
>>61649523zamn if I had to apply for a job I'd be cook I have literally no one lol
>>61651066gigabased, I need to get on this grind. Fuck the system,
>>61650473This is one of the few tasks they’ll actually do because they enjoy being busybodies and looking for reasons to disqualify applicants like for example references not replying to calls or emails. It makes them feel important.
>>61649523I worked for my uncle in high-school and when I first graduated I did summer jobs working for friends gave me a good reference base
>>61651221this dried up hr roasties use the job application process as a weird dating service
>>61649548That's not always true, you can put down bosses from unrelated jobs if you want them to be a character reference,. Especially if you're early on in you're career or changing careers
>>61651259Ewwww, this guy applied for a job, he must be broke or jobless. ICK ICK ICK. I'd never hire a guy who had to send in a job application!
