Im in my 30s and was expecting my parents to live to ~75, but i didnt realize that the fact theyre 65 now means they will probably live to 90. they have savings but no income, and another 25 years to live. so am i just fucked in this situation? the longer they live the older they will probably live to, until im getting guilt tripped for not paying their medical bills with my own savings

Yeah, my mom is now 96 and shows no signs of dropping dead any time soon. I'm stuck living with her because "she needs someone to help her".

I've had two strokes already and she is damn well determined to make me have a fatal one before she drops. She'll probably spend a month whining about how she's the real victim in all of this before finally going into a nursing home because absolutely nobody else will put up with her shit.

My stupid nigger mom is unders CNNs spell and drools when Wolf Blitzer speaks.

Imagine not living to a hundred

Sorry, 101.
Also imagine not living across three centuries. I will outlive the 21st century.

I have 3/4 grandparents still kicking in their 80s and 90s. They have all sorts of Silent/early Boomer perks like pensions and some of the best health insurance you can get. I wouldn't say they are retired, they are instead professional full-time patients for doctors to bill against. I am sure this has extended their lives.

When they die, my late Boomer parents will inherit some cash. My parents are semi-retired but have little money and do not own a home. Their plan is to live off of the inheritance and odd jobs. My dad has already said that when he inevitably has some major medical issue, he will just accept death. Aside from luck, they aren't going to make it to 90 like their parents, because they don't have the money or insurance for it. They're going to end up in a small apartment and eating simply.

It's not going to be possible to fully subsidize your parents. That's just the reality for our generation. My brother lives in poverty and will do so for life, I assume. I don't subsidize him either. He has to do his best. I wouldn't let him or my parents starve on the streets. I give when I can, I help out when I can, I fix their cars and give them hand-me-downs. Maybe this is really cynical and mean, but I think of it like how the parent puts on the oxygen mask rather than putting it on the baby. You have to help yourself to give yourself the capacity to help others. Another analogy is the fact that a drowning person will often drag their rescuer down to the depths with them.

> they will probably live to 90
Statistics are one thing, individual reality is another. My parents just suddenly died much too early within 3 years time. Mom cancer. Dad heart attack. Both were healthy as can be, took care of themselves, ate healthily, and had no more stress in life.
You never know. Death lurks.

How the fuck do you manage to be poor in term period where 1 week of work at McDonalds was almost enough to buy you 2 ounces worth of gold? A period where 1 year of work at McDonalds was almost enough to afford a down payment on a new fucking house? Are Boomers unironically the most retarded generation to ever exist?

Cancer sucks, my mom’s been dealing with that and all the doctor’s giving her mixes signals even after she had surgery to cut it out of her. Heart disease is usually pretty preventable though, provides you’re relatively young. Even a few dozen pounds can be the difference between life and death. Even if you go to the gym regularly.

It's much simpler. Her surgeon said it best - number 1 risk factor for cancer is simply old age

die already and leave anon in peace
