I am upper-middle class Australian. My parents and grandparents and all their friends own 1+ property. From what I have seen, unanimously, they are all selling their (good and profitable) family homes and downgrading (for a loss) into smaller more comfortable living arrangements to see them into death. And with the remaining in savings they all own, they either use it all up on either overseas trips and cruises, or they buy a caravan and a flash ute to pull it and travel the country.They are taking losses and spending their savings on their own (usually overkill) comforts and pleasures as a way to make their lives even more easy and cosy as they traverse towards the grave.Leaving their children and grandchildren with sometimes nothing, but usually barely anything except the asset of a small unit in a community of even more oldies. Forcing them to sell it (for a further loss) for something bearable in regards to community. Not to mention these assets usually get split amongst multiple children so it becomes fuck all.But who are we to complain, we have no right to the money they earnt when the economy wasn't as bad.
