The reality is that for the most part, crime legitimately doesn't pay. The types of white collar crime that do pay (a lot) are not something that your average rando can just get in to. You need to already be in a pretty wealthy position to pull it off. The only "crime" that your average citizen should really be doing for financial gain is cheating on your taxes or just straight up not paying taxes, but this is virtually impossible for your average W-2 wagie and is probably already being done by anyone who isn't getting a W-2 lol.
