Reality or fiction?
Is it even possible to do this to people? The money would flew out of that country in a heartbeat.
Or not?

Never underestimate how retarded and mathematically illiterate the median voter is.

They are saying that 'the rich profited in an unjust way from crypto'. Scary shit.

>(((unjust)))
>pay your unrealised gains tax snipping away 40+% of your 1 gorillion % unrealised gains in btc, thank you EU.
>you have to enter debt because you dont want to liquidate your assets, praying to the gods there is 1 boomer bank that accepts your bags of coins and house as collateral.
>the bank exists but it's extra jewish, 20% yearly interest for your loan to pay taxes
>you finally pay your taxes
>quantum computer destroys the blockchain, btc reaches a new fair value of 0 or some other catastrophic event.
>bank takes your house, coins and legs
>you get taxed again because you technically sold your house to settle the debt (it probably doesnt work that way but i dont really want to find out)
>you now live in the streets and the police is after your asshole
>oh and the unrealized losses? yeah, you carry your bags, the tax department is not going to pardon any of your previous unrealised gains tax
anyone who supports unrealized gains tax is either a single neuron form of living or a politician who wants hookers and cocaine paid with other peoples hard earned money. If this kind of policy becomes the norm its joever

>Reality or fiction
Reality in some places, fiction in others. The US narrowly avoided this in 2024, an unrealized capital gains tax was the centerpiece of Kamala Harris' election campaign.
>Is it even possible to do this to people
yes. It's possible to do worse - you could be taxed on all capital, not just the gains. Property taxes are an example of this, as is California's new "wealth tax".
>The money would flew out of that country in a heartbeat.
Yes, which is why the country also needs to have an exit tax in place, like California's new "wealth tax".

What unrealised gains?

Dutch plebbitors and Dutch leftists in general are celebrating because they think the new tax will target rich peoole. And since none of them invest, they know shit about fuck.
>>
The proposed Dutch law is not going to happen. Of course you can't tax by forcing a sell. You can only tax pre purchase or post sale.
>>
I don't understand why you guys think this would be devasting for rich people, who are already good at building new assets to subvert tax laws, instead of mostly hurting unsophisticated investors like old people living off investment accounts or individual investors

You buy 1 coin at 100 dollars. The coin goes 10x and reaches 1000 dollar. You hold. Then it dumps to 100 dollars again.
Pay taxes on 900 dollars of unrealized gains.
