I'm pretty sure i got my identity stolen. i moved to an apartment last may, and a month ago i got a letter in the mail from a nearby bank saying that I have "interest income" on an account with them. its only $14.31, but they have my SSN on the letter, along with my name and the apartment address. my legal billing address is still at my moms house a county away.what do i do? my mom said i could take my SS Card and birth certificate to the bank and withdraw all the money, but fucking over someone who already stole my identity seems like a bad idea.

Ring the bank and ask for more details because you received letter about account you don't recognise. It could be a forgotten account rather than stolen identity. Maybe some utilities thing set up by a landlord or something.Seems very unlikely someone is going to come fuck you up over money in an account in your name. If it is legit stolen identity, your bank can point you in right direction
