The image posted is in AUD, but for those in the US, Lets assume an hourly wage of $15.

$15 USD in the US can buy 25lbs of rice. which is 45,000 calories. that is astounding.

I work minimum wage (AUS) and after 2 hours of work I can afford an entire weeks worth of food.

the first hour affords me actually nearly a months worth of carbohydrate energy (rice, pasta and potato's)

The second hour affords me 3kg of meat. which is more than enough protein for a week.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staple_food

very helpful link to understand there is actually not that much food in the entire world to eat for bulk calories/nutrition. there is about 7 different foods to eat. (wheat, rice, corn, potato, meat, dairy and bananas/plantains in certain regions, honorable mention for beans and lentils as well.)
>>
People think they're too good for rice and beans, supplemented with fresh vegetables. They deserve to be poor. For the price of two colas you can buy an entire bag of beans which will feed you for weeks. Stop eating corposlop made in a lab that's marked up 10000%, eat real food.

I spend all my food money on meat/fish/fage-yogurt.

the crazy thing is that cheap food is actually the better food. once you stop paying some mulatto teenager at mcdonalds to make your burger you get a cheaper burger with more beef. once you make your own fries you choose the oil its fried in. you can just not pay for the fizzy corn syrup juice too.

As soon as you get a blender you can basically be set since you can make any kind of spread, dip, peanut butter, herbs etc. The biggest draw back from cooking is the time invest which in turn is negated by doing meal prep.

I don't know about other countries but food in australia is so expensive now. Everything seemed to double in price in just the last 10 years
>>
>>61926835
This, although I buy beef and pork too. Bag of potatoes for $3.50 on sale, big bag of rice, a few cheeses, meats, and some fresh produce. I make way better tasting food than goyslop at a fraction of the cost and it's healthier. Eating goyslop daily is the biggest leak of most NPCs I believe (along with car financing).

The meat, is meat. I don't know what they add to it to make it taste like it does, but what they add to it is not food, so it shouldn't be the deciding factor on if you purchase or not, I am saying to buy food, not logistics.
>>
>>61926949
This is not true, In Australia, in 2019 pasta was $1.60 per kg, now it is $1.80

same with rice.

meat has increased by about 30% since then as well.

potato's are still $1kg same as 2019 (buy potato's from country grocers, they are very often $1 per kg.)

nowhere near doubled.
>>
>>61926822
How the hell is there 1000kcals in that order!?
>>
>>61927028
You're right to be surprised, because the actual amount of food is not much at all, it is just that the potato is fried in oil, and the burger patty as well.

frying food increases caloric density without adding more food.

it's nothing special, it happens if you fry anything.
>>
>>61926949
>>61927022
and to add onto this, minimum wage has increased by 25% since 2019 as well (with most jobs actually paying closer to the equivalent of a 40% increase), so food is actually cheaper or at the least, the same in relativity to minimum wage.
>>
>>61927039
>1964 minimum wage $1.25
>$1.25 in 1964 quarters is over an ozt of silver
>1 ozt of physical silver right now is $90 but it's really $100 with premium
>a minimum wage paper boy in 1964 was making $100 an hour our money to silver exchange rate

But the number go up right?
>>
>>61927069
This is minimum wage to silver, I am talking about the minimum wage to food ratio.
>>
i doubt american wagies take the time to cook real food. aussies usually do.
>>
>>61927071
Well in the US a pound of rice in 1964 was about 8 cents, now it's averaging a dollar or more. Which is 12x price raise

Meanwhile the minimum wage in my states gone from 1.25 to less than 8 dollars, only a 7x raise

So the average American is only able to buy half as much rice on minum wage now, as they did 60 years ago

Not Australian so I don't know kangaroo numbers
>>
>>61927076
Whether they cook the food themselves, or pay someone else to do it for them, they are eating the exact same food.

someone who eats a mcdonalds burger, is eating the same food ingredients as someone who makes spaghetti bolognese

the burger: meat, cheese, wheat (bun/bread)
spaghetti bolognese: meat, cheese, wheat (noodles)

the additives that mcdonalds adds is irrelevant as the additives aren't food. so shouldn't be a deciding factor in if you buy the product or not.

>>
>>61926872
It's mostly just negated by experience. I settled on about 15 recipes and I've cut so many corners over the years that they're now 10 minute long each. Most of the shit people tell you to do in a recipe does fucking nothing. I WILL break that pasta in two because I'm not doing a pasta summoning ritual that needs to be followed to a t, I'm just putting it in hot water.
>>
>>61927141
>I wait for specials on most things now
My weekly food expense is about $35, and the food I buy NEVER goes on special.

If the food you buy goes on special I guarantee it is just the staple foods that have been named in this thread, but with a company logo on it.
>>
>>61927028
Mostly the bread, without it it's below 800 cal.
>>
>>61927151
mine used to be about $50 and now it's close to $100. Even simple things like lettuce and tomato have doubled in price. Beef mince has gone from like $11 to $15 in a couple of years. Milk and bread are still pretty cheap though
>>
>>61926822
You're paying for labor, you spend 3-4 hours preparing the food or you pay some one else to do it. They just happen to be more efficient at it so they can churn out way more meals than you for the same 3-4 hours labor.
>>
>>61927167
>lettuce and tomato have doubled in price
These are not staple food, they have hardly any calories or nutrients at all, these are called culinary foods, foods that are used purely for taste, texture or color. they are not necessary to buy or eat.
>>61927171
yes exactly, you are paying people to make food for you, that is why mcdonalds and so forth costs so much. and if you were to make a burger and put some potato on the side, it is absolutely not going to take 3-4 hours.
>>
>>61926835
>fresh vegetables
You mean megafarm product that is 99% water and has no nutrients due to stripped soil?

Eating rice and beans will fuck you up, both digestively and psychologically. I don't mind rice and beans every so often, but subsisting off it like some gookxican farmer is no way to live. Not to mention those beans tear my ass UP. No thanks.
>>
>>61926870

>>
>>61927193
Potato's are the only vegetable worth eating anyway.

I wouldn't advise for beans either on a regular basis.
>>61927195
The average mexican in the USA is not eating just plain rice and beans.
>>
>>61927182
i'm not a bodybuilder or athlete or something though, i just eat normal foods like most people. Lettuce and tomato are very common things to buy. Tomatoes have lots of nutrients too
>Tomatoes are nutrient-dense, low-calorie fruits (approx. 18-22 kcal per medium tomato) composed of 95% water. They are an excellent source of vitamin C (19% DV), potassium, vitamin K, and fiber. Rich in antioxidants, particularly lycopene, they support heart health, cancer prevention, and improved skin, acting as a key anti-inflammatory food.
>>
>>61927199
Fiber = potato's, banana's and pasta.
Vitamins = primarily meat.

There is hardly any vitamins in lettuce or tomato by themselves, and in comparison to meat, it is no competition. so I don't see your point.
>>
>>61927212
I'm not a bodybuilder either, if you spend $10 on tomatoes you will have maybe 1.5kg or something, maybe 2kg, that is only 400 calories at most, compare that to spending $10 on rice, with the rice you will have 20,000 calories.

and plants are really only good for carbohydrate and vitamin c, for micronutrients meat is hands down the best.
>>
>>61927214

and to add to this
>>61927212
>Tomatoes are nutrient-dense, low-calorie fruits (approx. 18-22 kcal per medium tomato) composed of 95% water
this is not a good thing if you are spending money on them, this means you are paying for something that is 95% water.
>>
>>61927233
an anti-oxidant, do you need to base your diet on tomatoes because of lycopene ?

>>61927245
No, lettuce and tomato's have never taken priority over rice, ever, so you are not replacing tomato's and lettuce with rice. you are simply weighing whether it is worth paying for a food that gives you so little in return per $1
>>61927246
I propose that people just buy and eat staple foods, your opposition to this is that because lycopene is not found in these staple foods, the whole argument collapses, instead of just (if you see it as important) eating a few tomato's per week.
>>61927313
Why would I sell a burger, I would eat the burger.
>>
>>61927327
Same point. You can’t have all the vitamins from staples. That’s why it’s called a balanced diet and not a staples diet. Poor people can only afford staples and that’s why they are malnourished.
>>
>>61927344
What nutrients are missing in a diet that prioritizes meat (including liver and kidneys), a staple grain (wheat, rice or corn), potato's, dairy and certain fruits (bananas, dried dates and raisins) ?
>>
>>61927352
No nutrients are missing with just the muscle meat alone. Fiber, oxalates, phytates, lectins and other plant toxins will just leech whatever nutrients you do eat. Worthless slop to fill the bellies of slaves without nourishing.

Vitamin D*
>>
>>61927363
There are certainly nutrients missing in muscle meat.

Carbohydrate (a macronutrient) is an obvious one, Vitamin C is missing, Vitamin A is missing, Calcium, and there are plenty more.
>>
>>61927371
Fatty fish and seafood, are meat. they are included. vitamin d is obtained from fatty fish as well as from exposing the skin to the sun.

also these oily fish are an excellent source of magnesium.

>carbohydrate
Gluconeogensis, not required exogenously in any capacity
>vitamin C missing
Incorrect and retarded
>vitamin A is missing
Has the actual only real source of vitamin A (retinol). Plant based beta-carotene needs to be converted in the body, with many barely able to utilize even 5% of it based on their genes
>calcium
Plenty in muscle meat too. Plus excess calcium is also terrible for you.
The oxalates in leafy greens will actually strip calcium from your body.
You do realize if animals didnt have these things in them they'd be dead too right?
>>
>>61927400
>Gluconeogensis
Yes, your body does everything it can to produce glucose, and carbohydrate is by far the easiest for the body to use for such purpose.
>Has the actual only real source of vitamin A (retinol).
Vitamin A is not stored in the muscles. it is stored in organs, which is not muscle meat.
>>61927400
>Plenty in muscle meat too.
It is very low in calcium.
You are better of just drinking a glass of milk.
>>
>>61927405
>Yes, your body does everything it can to produce glucose
Anthropromorphising bodily functions and attributing "wants" to them is not an argument. There is still no requirement for exogenous carbohydrates for humans.
>>61927405
Vitamin A is stored in fat, not organs specifically. When you eat muscles you eat the associated fat, unless you're a freak.
>low in calcium

Another protip: Organ meat is typically a third of the price of the cheapest ground beef and has insane nutrition.

Even on a beans and rice poverty diet as long as you add a bit of liver and some fresh vegetables you will nail almost all of your micronutrients. Buy a simple manual meat grinder and you can cook organ meat into bolognese just like ground beef

I lived on 35 AUD a week for a year doing this and had zero health issues
>>
>>61927417
Well to play semantics, when you say muscle meat, you are talking about the meat, the contractile tissue, fat is separate from this. as they are two different things, but sure. meat (muscle meat, but specifically liver and kidneys) definitely is necessary as it is the largest provider of nutrients by far.

Soil has no very little to do with nutrients. Genetics of the plant has more control over nutrients, so the long lasting bland food that was bred to be that way is the problem. >>61927442
Fair enough if you want me to be completely specific, because it really impossible to consume muscle meat without consuming fat, it is always connected unless you are a freak that cuts it off.
But to concede semantics, you need the muscle meat and associated fat, in a ratio of around 70-30 more or less respectively. Organs aren't required, they are nutritious, sometimes overly nutritious to a toxic level in excess.
I don't eat them mainly because they taste nasty. My bones aren't disintigrating, my muscles still grow stronger through training, my shits are 100 times better than before and I have no debilitating chronic diseases. N =1 but it just works.
To keep it /biz/ related, this diet is incredibly cheap and simple and still satiating and appetizing, and I can't recommend it enough. It won't be as cheap as beans and rice but also you won't be sick, constipated, low energy, brain fogged, skinny fat grain slave that ends up spending 200k in hospital bills and medicines.
I spend $400 a month on food, but I do get the much more expensive grass fed ground beef and special cuts from a local farm because I can afford it. If you are in a pinch, those 70/30 beef tubes from walmart could easily get you to survive with minimal effort and probably only $150 a month or so.
>>
>>61928700
Rice is ok. I wasted way too much of my life studying biochemistry.

Its kinda shit to have incomplete proteins with low bioavailability. You want to have like 1 gram per pound of bodyweight of protein per day. Ideally Cysteine & Taurine.

Look into the cuts of meat we stopped eating in like the late 1800s/early 1900s, these ones are cheap and actually have what we need

retard, carbs are key for energy and recovery, you just have to learn to eat the right amount at the right time, 100g rice 2-3 hours before lifting, 40g rice after lifting to restore glycogen stores, lower carbs at dinner, etc…

after a few months of adaptation, 0 carb btfo carb loading in virtually every single scenario, along with other added benefits. Carbs are just trash. Even animals that eat only plants like cows convert their food into fatty acids through fermentation.
