Last week China banned exports of refined fuel, and asked traders to "try" and stop already agreed deals.

Today, China is no longer asking. They completely banned fuel exports, including already agreed deals. Nothing gets out.

>>
>>61976064
First of all, leverage on this might be retarded.

On Monday, Trump tweeted the war is almost over and crude crashed.
On Tuesday, people realized he didn't mean it and oil spiked. Then energy secretary Wright posted that the US Navy escorted tankers through the strait, and oil tanked. Two hours later the White House denied this and the post was deleted, and oil spiked.
Good luck with leverage when you're dealing with clowns.

Secondly, how long this lasts hinges on political decisions.
Do you think Trump will chicken out and retreat? That's all there is to it.
>>
>>61976064

Of course it did, on top of the Reuters article from last week, it happened this very Monday. You don't see oil, the biggest and most important commodity in the world, go +30% and then close at -10% in the very same day without blatant manipulation. Imagine that, a 40% delta. BOTH WAYS, at that. Sure +30% might have been much, but it should have closed at least +15% Not fucking -10, what the fuck.

LOL. $500 a barrel. The nominal all-time high for Brent crude oil of $147.50 per barrel, reached in July 2008, is equivalent to approximately $222.82 in March 2026 dollars. Oil's likely not going over $250. As oil goes up, there is massive demand destruction, especially in less developed countries who squeezed typically by higher dollar and higher oil prices.

A second order effect I read today: India ordered all refineries and petchem complexes to prioritize LPG. Subsequently LPG will go to "essential" sectors like hospitals, with restaurants and hotels getting LPG by committee approval. Anyway that's pajeet shit that's not important.
The interesting part is that a petchem complex switched of all production of propylene to prioritize LPG (butane and propane).
As a result, another complex further downstream is no longer getting propylene and shut down its production.

This is where it gets very interesting. That second plant is India's -only- maker of Propylene Glycol.
Propylene Glycol is found in the majority of all pharmaceutical liquid orals (syrups and the like), topical creams and gels and almost half of injectables.

India is one of the largest makers of meds in the world. 40% of US generics. 25% of all UK meds.

The rabbit hole goes deeper than most people realize.

The rabbit hole goes deeper than most people realize.

Plus the fact most pharmaceuticals going to west are flown in via air cargo. And air cargo prices have skyrocketed. We might see shortages of generic meds lot of boomers need. And insurances can't raise premiums right away so they'll be stuck paying higher costs for these meds losing billions of dollars.

Lot of these Indian companies also use Chinese precursors so they mostly act like cook book followers who get fda certified. China can't easily replace India since it'll take years for US to certify them and don't think Trump admin would allow it.

Longer this goes on btw lot of small time Indian companies will go bankrupt since their whole profit is cheap cargo prices to fulfill cheap prices. And not only boomers btw even antibiotics, benzos , steroids, hormones and dermatology might experience shortages or price hikes making insurers lose more money until next year where they'll charge higher premium rates

i'm beginning to think it's a law of fucking physics that i have to always enter positions way too fucking early
whatever. was adding more as of yesterday but i'm just going to wait. it's basically oil in that the higher yields go the more they have to crash back down. in oil's case demand destruction. in duration's case we're in the refinancing cycle and it is going to DESTROY people who need credit to refinance here so inevitably rates will just come crashing down. unless the risk free rate can blow out at the same time credit spreads do. which is totally impossible and can't ever happen ever.

We are a long way off "the day after" scenarios.

I expect to see Atlantic drilling for both oil and LNG. Brazil, Argentina, Guyana.
More US ethane exports as Asian refineries finally switch out of Middle Eastern naphtha.
Much larger stockpiles of resources with the ability to draw down from them faster too. No more salt cavern crap.

For China, if it loses both Venezuela and Iran as suppliers of discounted oil, it might need to destabilize another country and get the US to impose sanctions on it. Brazil is the most likely target since they produce so much of what China wants.

It's not a 2-day trade.

Right now foreign central banks are selling to raise dollars to get oil & levered hedge funds are likely selling to not blow up.
