Consider this: gamestop's market cap is currently $10 billion and has been pinned near it for a while. Which means that the market makers have decided that gamestop as a business isn't worth much outside of their cash.If gamestop were to deploy a sizeable portion of their cash and make an acquisition and that acquisition does NOT result in immediate cash flow, gme will take a major hit because the market makers (who control the price) will decide that since they have less cash, the market cap should be less.
