Will China be less effected economically by the oil crisis because they have tons of coal, both for energy and chemical feedstock via the coal to syngas to methanol to olefins/gasoline route?

One additional thing to note is that Chinese petrochemical plants tend to be integrated with refineries, which means the input is crude oil rather than refined product. Crude oil from the Gulf is easier to substitute than naphtha from Gulf refineries
