I’m a 1L student at a top 30 law school in the country, I was in the top 33% for my first semester GPA and I’ve applied to over 70 summer internships but I’ve gotten absolutely nothing. Am I screwed? I have heard getting a summer internship is insanely important but it’s almost April and I’ve only had a few interviews that petered out. I assumed this would be so much easier once I got my grades back but it’s impossible.

Given that you are flexing your school’s ranking and grades, I would bet you are applying mostly for Big Law internships. Those are reserved gay black women these days so you are barking up the wrong tree. Reach out to local small or midsize firms in your area. You should also talk to your career center. In the worst case scenario, apply for a judicial externship as those are pretty easy to get. But yeah, you have to find something.
