RTO is being pushed at my job. 2 days a week in a city relatively far from me (2 hour commute).Should I rent a small studio apartment or should I take the bus? I'd have to waste about 13% of my wage (more for a bigger one).
>>62042805I quit when they rtod 5 days a week with nothing lined up planning to do a year sabbatical. I had a recruiter already reach out and I am barely halfway through my sabbatical. Not sure why I am even following through
>>62042819I could quit today if I wanted to, but I'd have to take a much lower pay, like a 30% cut or more if I got another job. I get messages from recruiters all the time, and I do apply from time to time, but so far no one has hired me, and they are all RTOing anyway...
>>62042805Try the bus but I can almost guarantee that you you won't be able to stand it unless (desu even if) you can fall asleep easily on it and/or have a good way to occupy your time.Keep in mind that finding a place takes its own commute. If you can dip from work early to attend a showing, that saves you the time and money of riding/driving in on your day off.
>>620428612 days a week is still outside the norm boss and not as bad as it could be
>>62042866Oh, t. did it for 5 months last year. The ride itself didn't suck as much as how much of my day it stole. Up at 5 and still having my bosses bitching at me for coming in at 8:30 instead of 8. Leaving at 5, getting home around 7, everything has to be done by 9:30-10:00 to be in bed on time.
I live 200km from the office, been doing WFH for 7 years now. Currently I have a deal that I will do 3 days per month which I break all the time. They started demanding this in 2023 and I do this for 2-3 months, then stop, then it comes up again a year later. Don't just comply like a sheep, do it once, twice, then stop doing it. But then again I'm critical personnel at this job and they can't fire me over this.
>>62042902>But then again I'm critical personnel at this job and they can't fire me over this.my role is kinda critical, but my boss is a dick sucking retard, so instead of using this to our advantage, the faggot keeps giving in to his boss, and has fired a bunch of coworkers. this is also a reason why I'm wary of renting. I could end up wasting a ton of money if they fire me.
>>62042805We've RTO'd a dozen times but I'm still WFH 5 days a week and the office is still empty.
>>62043107I should have done that instead of giving in, I guess. too bad I already said I would respect it...
>>62042805Tell them you're not gonna do that shit at all and dare them to fire you.
>>62042805Are the 2 days adjacent? If so, you can rent with roommates and only stay for a night, or two nights if the commute is much shorter during the night.I work 2 days a week non-adjacent, in a city that is 90 minutes away from me, and that's after peak rush hour (I arrive before 10). When I started here, I used the bus for a few months. It takes 2.5 hours in the morning and 2 hours at night, but I liked it because I can do stuff while being driven. The problem though is the people. Imagine what kind of people are so lowly that they can't afford a car or a city apartment, those are the people you will meet in an inter-city bus. I met absolutely deranged schizos, drug users, and one time someone behind me started watching porn on his phone with the speakers on. In the winter it is too fucking hot because they always cater to the elderly and women. If a perfumed cunt or a heavy smoker boards then you just have to suffer it.Also it just takes too much time. I lose 4.5 to 5 hours of my time on this shit, vs 3 hours when using a car, so I switched to a car. I hate the car as well but I'm just not going to be a rentcuck. Imagine paying out of your net income to cover some boomer's retirement or mortgage.>>62043682I wouldn't do this in this clown economy.
>>62042805They are about to do energy lockdowns so the RTO will be cancelled
So what's the actual answer: why do they want people in the office when everything can get done from home fine?
>>62042805this is my exact scenario for a year now, but the commute is ~2.5h depending on traffic. I get there by car, park for free not far from city center, then stay in a hotel overnight. I take the cheapest hotel that has private bathroom and is clean. Its not the best money wise but more convenient for me. i take the evening going to bars, playing pool or sightseeing, whatever. It wouldnt be worth it with 3 days in office tho.
>>62042805They gave you the heads up to quit. Start looking now for a new job. Play hardball too fuck em and when you get a new job do what I do. I don’t give 2weeks notice I just box my stuff mail it with a note and never say shit again. FUCK EM. They wanna play. Play back. >I have no car and no intention to get one
>>62043920Who cares it’s a psychological game with these fucking freaks. Get a new job. Send your shit in a box with a photocopied picture of your dick and balls with a note saying “here’s my return to office” no 2 weeks sucker punch em back
>>62043730All of this bullshit for fucking pay that’s not even 250-400k lmao I would never. I’d sooner be homeless man
>>62043920everyone knows people are slacking off at home and only do the bare minimum. thats fine and you cant expect more than that from a regular employee desu but some retards go to far with it and pretty much do zero work which fucks up the deal for everyone else.
>>62042902>hurr durr im so special and criticalThey could replace you in a week and they’d murder your entire family in front of you to make more profit.
>>62044622The people that slack off at home are the same people that slack off in the office.
>>62044695thats true but these are usually the first ones who quit once they have to go back to office. seen that more than enough in my work place.
>>62043682This is the only answer, all the other wagies that gave up on WFH and willingly returned to the office deserve the humiliation they get.
>Work for Nordic company >CEO decides 3 day RTO>They talk highly about the benefits of going to the office, after bragging about the benefits of WFH during covid>They started tracking units first on adherence >Now they are tracking individually>Your boss follows this up and you even have an app to plan and track it yourself>At the same time we are cutting costs, so traveling is highly restricted>This especially goes out on those working in cross border teams >Some have no team in their office, so they come to the office, punch in their card and go home to work again>People are pissed and calling out the bullshit and how we are treated like kids>Now most meetings are about this topic>Probably millions are being wasted on thisHonestly what a shitshow.
I simply quit the day I'm told to get back into an office.Simple as fucking that.
You WFH fags did this to yourselves. It wasn't 1-2% of people during COVID, it was 30-40% of you dickheads that were actively fucking off at home FOR FUCKING YEARS. You fags got years at home to fuck off. People abused bennies, WFH, COVIDbucks, stimmies, and now the pendulum is swinging back. Get fucked lol. All the people that worked jobs that never allowed for WFH are laughing at you dipshits right now, just like how you were laughing at wagies during COVID while you sat at home in your PJs the entire fucking day. t. wagie who never got a single stimmie check and never did WFH a day in my life
>>62044791Sound like you’re just envious of a scenario that you have fabricated in your head. I manage a remote team and across our company the remote teams consistently outperform the handful of in office or hybrid teams. The truth is that once you stop limiting yourself to a physical location for hiring, the talent pool explodes.
>>62044845In your example I'm sure you are correct. It's just that middle managers everywhere saw how much fucking off people were doing and now are convinced that WFH requires in person babysitting for a few days a week and I don't see that changing. My job pays me to travel, something WFH by definition would exclude. In my opinion that is missing out. But hey whenever makes you happy.
>>620442056 hours of commuting a week in total. Similar to people who commute every day 30 to 40 minutes. I think it is worth it compared to moving to the city or finding a job where I live that will pay a fraction of what I make.>>62044791You should be thankful how remote workers significantly reduce traffic during rush hour. I actually felt how commutes became worse as companies started demanding RTO. Fuck off you short sided seething prick.
