>1200-1500 "high quality qubits"considering current quantum computers have few (if any) "high quality qubits", and the challenge of synchronizing qubits increases the more qubits you have, it doesn't matter if we need a million or 1200. The proposed attack also assumes: the public key is exposed. Public key exposure can be solved simply by transferring funds to another wallet. Furthermore, an attack on mempool transactions would require absolute worst case circumstances to succeed, notwithstanding whether such an attack makes financial sense to begin with, in the event that the quantum computation is more expensive than the amount in the vulnerable wallet.
>>62059578OH SHIIII>1200 high quality cubitsDon't the best 'quantum computers' right now max out at like 10?And isn't it an exponential difficulty curve adding more qubits without garbage outputs/hallucinations?Not saying it can't happen, but this is a bit silly, innit?

The part this article didn't mention that is also stated by Google is that Algorand is the most quantum proof protocol out there.
all crypto is backdoored, quantum is a nothingburger and also physically impossible

>>62059578how do you guys not realize that, sometimes, people find similar non-quantum methods to attack crypto algoritms? if Google came up with a way to make it easier to brake cryptocurrencies, IMO you should start worrying...

It's trouble if this will be practical. It's salvageable, but it's difficult. They'd need to transfer the system to a quantum-proof algorithm, and force everyone to create new wallets and transfer the BTC into them during a transition period. After this is ended, all BTC that have not been transferred into the new system will be forfeit. There will probably be widespread disagreement over this and possibly multiple forks, which will lead to value dropping dramatically.
