anyone else living the /middle manager/ life?
>get asked question by superiors or external parties
>fire off a few emails to other departments or subordinates and send wagies scrambling
>get new work thrown at me
>push it down to subordinate so i can 'review it' and maintain segregation of duties

Fuck you, I’m not coming in on Sunday.

Middle management for the last 4 years.

Gotta get out of this. Either be a supervisor or regional at this point
>>

i make my wagies work but i dont expect them to work over 40 and i will bitch and moan and complain and make a big scene about us not having the bandwidth for additional work, especially if it's something downstream of execugroid or VPcel retardation.

I wouldn't want to be a middle manager. Having to listen to people bitch about their lives so I can make accomodations for them sounds awful. I would take the title if it allowed me to just do the work. I just don't want to do the management part of it.

I don't really know of any "middle manager" roles - has to be some extremely legacy company for that to exist. Either you are a bitch-ass manager or you are a director, even at Fortune 500 companies. I am guessing a lot of you guys saying "Middle management" are really just line managers, though I could be wrong.

I do know a few people who are managers that are chilling at work, as in, roll in at 11am, do some bullshit, roll out at 3pm. They are still in the office and their salaries aren't competitive at all. That or they are someone's kid.

The biggest manager LARP I have seen was at 5/3rd - a guy named Charlie, a gay art student (literally), got put in a senior director role at 26 with 0 IT experience. He was supposed to modernize 5/3rd's IT and manage directors with 30 years of experience, his dad is some high up in another department.

Guy did nothing for 2 years and got a role at Chase somehow after everyone basically bullied him. But they bullied him politely and couldn't really do shit.

But I guess the point I am making is that those positions don't really exist for the most part.

im a senior manager at a fortune 20. i have a manager and a few offshore indians reporting to me, looking to add 1-2 more managers within the next year. due to the nature of my work i indirectly boss around directors, senior managers, managers, and analysts outside of my team.

I had something similar insofar that I was the best technical lead / architect. Eventually an off-shore team, QA, multiple on shore leads "reported" to me. I had a good relationship with marketing, sales, devs, scrum bullshitters, etc. I also had the cleanest backlog that actually had useful shit on it, so other teams came to me.

But I wasn't a "middle manager" - I was an architect that got stuck doing a bunch of bullshit - I would be the one to tell people to do their job AND the one to do hands-on code at 2am AND the one to interview people, AND the one to fight with other departments, AND the one to report on business direction.

I literally got nothing for it, my "lead" was a late 20s director that didn't do shit. Love the guy, but he was also a nepo baby, though a cool one.

I was NOT a middle manager though since no one except my immediate team reported to me on paper, nor was I considered for director positions, nor did I get larger bonuses like true middle management does.

I guess I am arguing semantics, I am just not familiar with many chill "true" middle management positions. Due to title inflation, that's just directors, where you have 2-3 managers reporting to you.

I only consider it "true" when:

1. REAL managers, with multi-people teams report to you.
2. They OFFICIALLY report to you
3. Multiple managers report to you

Something like that, I realized I am just ranting.

I spend more time covering my ass than actual work. Entire days spent looking up old saved sent emails and resending them when someone acusses me of something.

I stand around and get paid overtime while posting on 4chan.

This sounds pretty comfy but these jobs are also the first to go in layoffs, and all your underlings might hate you. I wouldn't like management.
>>62097580
Sounds really stressful.
>>
>>62092462
sounds like you do more than my boss. hes on the hot seat for overseeing the group going to shit. (we hired a few people with no knowledge of the job. that didnt help.)
>>
>>62092479
Based, me too.

>>62092792
What do you mean we don't exist? The company I work for does software. Every 12 or so code monkeys get a bossy monkey (me) to oversee them. How is that a wild concept?

When the code monkeys are behaving, I also code myself, so I'm not useless either.

apparantly my managers are required to commit fraud because every single one has done it in the open with paper trails they don't have control over except the guy that just got promoted a few months ago. doesn't seem worth it at all

At the same time nobody wants to do middle management work because when it comes time to make a decision, everyone will think you're a huge faggot when you get it wrong. You have to be part psychopath to enjoy management.
I enjoy team leader more. Management live in fear I'll call them out and rely on me for technical knowledge.
>>
Managers are retarded. Either max out the IC track or be in the C-suite, no in-between. I'm pretty sure "management" will be automated away by AI before either of those other two things too.
