How old is too old to bother with a 401k?

Unironically 18. I aint waiting around 30 years in some brokerage after witnessing Obama and Biden milking the utter shit out of productive middle class who pays taxes. People will keep voting in these retards to raid the treasury for them

29 is when I stopped bothering

its not an age but the size. since money has to get taxed on the way out AND you will get RMDs at some point, you end up paying more taxes in retirement once the 401k gets to large sizes. when you put it in a brokerage, you have an option to borrow against it instead of realizing the gain. even if you realize it, it's ltgc instead of income. ideally you can retire early and roth convert your pretax accounts in years where you have big deductions or no income. then when you're really rich, you do things like donate half your 401k to your own 501c3 which gives you a tax deduction to remove the other half completely free.
>>
the trick is put enough into the 401k to lower your taxable income for that year into a lower bracket, and then put the rest into a roth 401k so you get tax free withdrawals in retirement, that way you wont get hit as hard by the rmds in retirement
