>but if deflation is bad how come pple is the most valuable company when phone prices have deflated 50% over 25 years?
>it just is, okay
Why hasn't TV-manufacturers gone out of business? There's no way a deflationary economic model is long term sustainable, is there?
Even the price of software has gone down 75%. Why is Microsoft still valued so high?

apple phone prices go up every year.

The way they measure inflation for phones is retarded. You think: it’s just the price, right?

No. They measure bullshit like “new features” like a barely upgraded camera and argue that: “well, it’s not really the same phone. It’s improved. Yes it’s gone up in price but the features are actually enhancing the phone well beyond what that price increase suggests. Thus, it’s really deflating if you think about it.” So whenever apple does literally anything to change their phone, the inflation is reduced despite the price increasing.

Not even making it up. It’s fucking retarded, and OP is retarded for using cellphones as an example of deflation. This is also by design. You know why inflation feels way higher than 3.2%? Goodhart put it well when he argued that a metric becomes useless once it becomes the target because, in that event, everyone fucks with the data to make the target. The way in which CPI is calculated is nonsensical on purpose. Don’t even get me started on how they assess housing…

Yep. And if something gets worse they ignore it.
