It's being pushed around by major institutions using them in more complex moves. When you trade an oil future you are not betting on the future price of oil nor the movement in either direction. You are betting on price movement based on demand for paper contracts to be used in a more complex hedging strategy by major institutions. It's a completely different thing and you will get rekt if you think you can trade oil futures because you understand how the price of oil will move.
