I'm a man with a STEM background who has worked in kitchens before to make it by but isn't trained in business, just project management. I have ideas for some brick and mortar businesses like novelty themed restaurants and hobby/game shops and I'd like to begin learning the fundamentals of starting and operating my own business, not sure if these would be LLCs or classified as something else. Didn't see (or could identify) a general for this kind of topic or question so I will ask the board, where do I go from here? Clearly anyone can start a business but I don't actually want to start making risks based around my ignorance, there will be plenty of room for risks on the financial side of things.
If there are resources or good guides, I'm interested. Obviously the business hook, product, and how I choose to market I won't want to copy brainlessly, I'm thinking more the actual startup, creation and admin side of things.
Pic unrelated.

You need to figure a lot of this out yourself otherwise its just going to flop anyway. Start with just registering/incorporating the company. LLC is best if you aren't a startup looking for vc funding or to sell out quickly.

If you're planning to do it alone/super lean team to start with then figure out what things are worth doing inhouse and what others you'll just be paying professional services for because you don't have time to do it all

>I have ideas for some brick and mortar businesses like novelty themed restaurants and hobby/game shops

These are all fucking terrible business ideas.

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Just copy an existing working business (lead gen agency) and do it yourself. You need a proven offer with demand. Then just execute. Having LLC won’t give you anything, having paying customers wheel.

I finally started my own company about 3 years ago. It's not even remotely as difficult as other businesses make it seems, and it's easier than working for anyone else. If you don't have any experience specifically in what you want to start, do a little research, know your target audience, and find a good place to set up.

Do a lot of research. Ask people where they like to go when they go out for fun. Ask where they've been in the past. Don't ask them hypotheticals, don't ask if they would go to X-themed restaurant or Y-hobby store. Most people won't respond fully honestly to those kinds of questions, they'll just say whatever sounds generally supportive. Don't even give them an idea of what you're planning, just focus on where they actually spend their money/time.
Remember that research is cheap/free, and the last thing you want to do is spend a fortune and months/years building some business that nobody wants.

posting in actual /biz/ thread. wtf are you doing here? people only sperg about random coins you haven't heard of here.

For food shit, the health code cert in addition to all the other usual business license + sellers' license seemed annoying and you aren't supposed to use (YOUR) kitchen, you're supposed to rent a commercial kitchen technically at least in Commiefornia. So you either operate illegally and wait to get shut down like the illegals do or you have massive capital investment up front, taking on huge initial risk like no normal person can afford to do. It's designed to be shitty in my humble opinion and I don't even know anything about food I just thought I could sell some iced coffee at flea markets where there were no beverages there wtf. complicated

You're right, I've had a food handler's card myself before but never those other certs, makes sense. I'll look more into food selling codes for my area. I'm sure taxation on restaurant income ontop of state tax will also need to be adhered to.

Best of luck on your business, anon. I know game stores, and the local university/military base is actually quite a distance away from another store that does video game and tcg tournaments, so for that store I'm hoping it will be my niche.

Thanks. I have a strong idea for the restaurant but would genuinely need to bring in talent from cooks and help building the menu, and I probably want a bar and to do alcohol, which is another cert on top of that.
