You would get sent everything in the mail, including your actual certificates showing you owned a stock/bond.

My Great-Grandpa had bond investments and they would physically send your bond certificates to you in the mail. Then you'd probably go to a local bank to redeem them when they matured.

What if they got lost in the mail?

Now millennials give their money to Indians and Eastern Europeans

I don't know.

I've been getting mail for 20 years and never lost a single item. Your name and everything was attached to the bonds, so it's not like other people could use them.

Maybe you just picked them up at a bank.

All kinds of phone fraud to steal money from old people exists.
I heard a story recently they called pretending to be police and the tax authorities and got the old person to sell 2 apartments and take out all the money in cash and give it to the scammers.
