The higher the displacement, the more fuel it burns (assuming equal engine speed) So if someone drives a vehicle with an absurdly high engine displacement it's a form of ostentatious consumption. Small vehicles will use less than 2 litres, for comparison. Cool Japanese cars like pic related use 0.66 litres. But filthy gaijin would not be able to comprehend such a thing.
