it is very demoralizing. the only advice I’d have is to make use of whatever personal connections you have. if a former coworker got a job somewhere else, apply there and try to use them as a reference. if an old classmate works somewhere, apply there and do the same. those are things that will set you apart from the hundreds of other people applying for the same role.
