Value investor here, anon. Here's my advice. If you want to do value investing, first recognize that you can get rich doing this, but you'll need to hang tight. Value isn't doing well these days. Growth stocks are doing well. But I'm confident value will return, as I think the AGI thesis is flawed and that growth stocks will correct. Given this, I want to highlight that most classic value texts are a little dated. Net-nets do still exist, for example, especially in Japan, but the best value opportunities lie in more esoteric bets. For example, recently a value investor studied Zimbabwe Construction and did very well with an investment in it. Competitive trading firms don't have the resources or incentives to look for the Zimbabwe Constructions of the world, tiny operations that only a kooky investigator would even consider. You have to be willing to really dig and to work with broken institutions a lot of the time. But there is definitely gold here, for the enterprising value investor. You would do well to become a world expert in something very very very specific and trade in that space; otherwise you'll be screwed every time by actual experts. Good luck and remember to have fun.
