I'm a seller on eBay and this is my latest buyer issue.

My buyer had no idea they'd have to pay import taxes / tariffs for the item they bought from me, and now they refuse to pay and pick up the package from customs.
They're thinking it will just get returned to me and they'll get their money back from eBay.
I'm thinking I want the fucking money and "not knowing about tariffs" isn't a valid excuse to call the deal off.
Buyers are often morons and they think it's my responsibility to inform them about how their own legislation works. No.

>but you're not losing anything
Do you understand how much time and effort went into this sale and the shipping? And I did pay for the shipping and will pay to get it returned to me.
>>
You lose one eBay sale and you come here to fucking whine about it?

sorta this

every business loses some money sometimes

the idea is to make a few hundred profitable sales so you don't worry about the one loss.

in business the goal is to never think about the cheats and liars. Let them win and move on. If you dwell on it you're wasting your chi on something that simply can't be helped and doesn't matter.

yes customers suck and it's not your fault. But if they're camped out in your mind you're giving them way more power than they deserve. Literally just write it off and forget about it. Put them on your blocked customer list and move on to the next sale.

I do this

Sometimes the package comes through without customs. Sometimes I have to pay import tax. I just order the item multiple times , and just keep the one where I don't have to pay import tax.
It's a life hack

OP here. I get what you're saying, but I forgot to mention that this was a 1500-dollar item. I'm not your typical /biz/ guy who makes that much regularly. I'm broke, and I needed this money.
It took me 8 months of shilling and pushing to get someone to actually buy this item and I don't want to start over with a new listing. Not to mention that eBay is so fucky these days that they'll tax me for the sale even though it was cancelled.

Some people make tons of 10-dollar sales, I make 1-2 bigger sales a year.
The downside is that every now and then these people fuck it up, and it burns so much more than losing a small sale.
I literally won't eat this summer because of this. I wonder if the buyers even realize that I'm not some soulless rich corporation but a dude who is trying to make ends meet.

The shipping cost was 200 dollars. I don't plan on sending it to him several times.
I'd rather just negotiate with him and even agree to pay his taxes like a fucking cuck at this point. I'm literally ready to beg him to keep the product he bought from me and not return it.

There'd be no problem if eBay didn't hold the money until buyer confirms delivery.
If there's one thing that's wrong with eBay is that they side with the buyer, always. The platform shouldn't fuck with the sellers because the sellers keep the site afloat
>>
Is there any legal way to push eBay to release the funds even though the buyer didn't get the product?
I mean they only didn't get it because they chose to not pick it up from the customs.
This was a conscious decision on their part so they can't file a dispute. I have tracking records that prove it. The way I see it, they bought the product, had it shipped to them, and decided to not pick it up. At that point it's theirs, not mine. It's literally their property at that point, not mine in any way.

The British customs contacted me and told me they want my money so they can ship the item back. I don't want to pay.
>>
Speak to eBay support, only the jeet on there can give you an actual answer.
I complained enough about a buyer fucking me around that eBay themselves paid me out as a courtesy, but it was a fairly low value item.

not sure what to say

I make dozens of sales over $1000 every year, so one going bad isn't much of a problem.

if it cuts that deep, I don't think I'd play the game

also I'd certainly block international listings if I was you.

you can complain to ebay, I would. I would say that's their problem since they handle international shipping and customs in my cunt.

as soon as my product leaves my country it's their problem, not mine.
