>"don't invest what you're not willing to lose.">"NOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST KEEP 100K IN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT THAT SHOULD BE IN THE MARKET!"Fucking which is it?
before 1972>"don't invest what you're not willing to lose."after 1972>"NOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST KEEP 100K IN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT THAT SHOULD BE IN THE MARKET!"
>>62211359>step onehave more than 100k in savings account>step twoinvest
>>62211359you can keep 100k in a savings account. i do. it's just that i also invest. if I only had 100k and i kept it all in a savings account, it would be a problem since it would just waste away to inflation.
>>62211359>>"don't invest what you're not willing to lose."This is for day traders. It doesn't apply to putting your entire net worth into index funds.
>>62211435And if that index fund crashes?
>>62211443You put more money into it.
>>62211432Got 150k in our high yield just melting away. But feels dumb to put it into market rn when we’re on the brink of the greatest collapse of our lifetimes. While I know I can’t time the market, it just feels too risky rn and should stay sidelined w cash and hopefully slurp up cheapies once people realize they’re going to not only likely to lose their job, but struggle with the increase in their energy bill and property taxes/insurance. Wut do? Wanna buy build ready land to sit on and eventually build our home without a Jew mortgage
>>62211443Who cares? Your holding period should effectively be 'forever'.
>>62211444>>62211453That seems extremely retarded. It can't just keep going up forever.
>>62211472If it ends, that means that humans have stopped making technological progress.
>>62211359Keep it in a high yield savings account so it is at least minimizing how much it is losing value to inflation. I know a high yield savings account doesn't keep up with inflation but it is better than nothing. Also something like the S&P500 is pretty damn reliable and isn't going to crash to zero. And if it does crash to zero it probably means the entire USA economy has gone to ahit so your 100K would be gone anyways even if you had it as cash under your mattress. It would just be worthless paper.
>>62211359Firstly...recognize when youre being gaslit or shilled on the internet. Its extremely bad now for finance. Most people would say just invest in a target fund which screams "jane street take my money" and "ill buy all th dogshit governmnt bonds in the world all the time."Learn the math...watch andrew lo mit ocw finance lectures. Learn macro.Realize everyone has a different support system. You could be single with no support, or a trust fund baby who couldnt fail if they tried.Assuming you have no support, one thing almost everyone agrees on is have about 6 months of cash on hand in a money market. After that opinions diverge.I say invest enough into higher dividend (5-7% average over a few funds) that dont erode to have enough cashflow for basic needs without selling assets. After that fuck it...youre safe. Yolo soxl or just sp500...whatever you fuck with. Also learn the tax code. Toby mathis on youtub spills all the beans on rich peopl tax tricks...just somthing to look forward to.
>>62211444>>62211453how do you magically get more money if all your investments crash?
>>62211472Welcome to the stock market. On a large enough time scale, it always does.
>>62211472babbys first encounter with fiat
>>62211522by not putting it all in at once and hedging. dca 80% VT 20% GLD and thats that
nu-/biz/'s advice only works if oyu already make 350k a year. And they'll lie and say they're a tradie who does make 350k a year, even though it's not true.Invest what you can't afford to lose when you think you can win.
>>62211422Step three make sure its BTC you are investing in and not alts, Step four, stake on a good BTCFI that keeps BTC native if you have the balls
>>62211575>by not putting it all in at onceIt doesn't actually matter. There are studies that have looked at buying straight away vs dca vs trying to time the market.
>>62211443You empty out your savings account and buy more shares of the index fund. Which part of "buy low" do you not understand?
>>62211447>on the brink of the greatest collapse of our lifetimesSpeak for yourself, child. I've seen market crashes the likes of which you could not imagine.>27% drop in *3 hours*>80% drop in a year>78% drop in 6 monthsngl it's gonna be hilarious watching you zoomers throw yourselves off of buildings over the next 80% drop.
>>62211472>It can't just keep going up forever.Of course it can.
>>62211435My entire net worth is in a single memecoin
>>62211443it would be extremely painful
>>62211472it will always go up because of inflation. zoom the fuck out. we have data for the past 100+ years.
>>62211359They key is that you are supposed to be willing to lose everything.
