Engineer here. Thinking of saying fuck it to slaving away for one company and getting into contract work. There's a company that wants to contract me for 100 bucks an hiur for 20 hours a week for a few months. I can just take more contracts and then eventually hire college grads for poverty wage who are desperate for work/excperince to do the work for me. I can start and LLC and sheeeet.
if you can still have upward mobility while working less, go for it. pay difference barely matters compared to free time

The oil/gas industry is hiring in this up cycle but you will likely get laid off during the down cycle but it pays really well. Defense, finance, industrial controls, AI data centers...you should have the engineering, math, physics background for many jobs.
