Engineer here(not software). After working for 7 years and halfway through my masters im realizing that im a fucking idiot and was never cut out for this shit. Just bombed the technical questions on an interview(only got like 60-70 percent of them right). Shit I knew at one point is gone. My brain just cant handle storing any information. On top of that there's shit that I never learned..

Thinking of quitting and going to be a line cook. Can anyone relate?

You forgot ohm's law didnt you

I did a Physics degree, wasn't hot on job hunting, left the country and went home to do a ton of odd jobs. Among them was cooking. That was the best year of my life since it was something I enjoyed doing for once in my life. That being said, unless you plan on owning a restaurant stick, stay within your field. You'll get endless shit from everyone you know for leaving your engineering field.

>Shit I knew at one point is gone.
This is normal in what we do. A regular human cant store infinite information forever and ever and in engineering theres so much that goes into it, your brain is forced to throw out old knowledge your not using to make room for new.

They asked me to draw the field lines on a transmission strip and I thought the E field was parallel through the strip.

I love engineering im just a fucking retard and not cut out to be one. I feel ashamed
>>
>>62237405
That's impossible.

>>62237447
Oof, pretty bad. They were probably laughing about you later.

...

But don't beat yourself up too much. Plenty of my bosses, coworkers, and subordinates have been retarded. I've turned retarded as I've gotten older too. You'll get better at hiding it.

I have been in a telecom noc for 15 years. I genuinely dont know anything anymore but blaming customers equipment and shitting on the engineers not knowing how to use the config excel sheet
>>
Oh and shitting on the cybersec team because they quite literally are causing every single outage since 2020
>>
>>62237753
So u would also fuck up on interview questions? When do we even have to shit shit on the spot irl anyways?
>>
>>62237381
You have just graduated . There are people who are the opposite of you they fail and don't think they failed and just were unlucky and pass it on the next interview . How many jobs have you worked previously before this , you could start in an easier job relevant to your position and you will notice in 1-2 years that you are more prepared after being exposed to projects without working on them yourself . You don't have to jump down directly to line cock .
If you fail at 100% usually it is not the best option to jump in another field where you are even more unprepeared you rather try at 80 then 70 then 60 find your balance and then you start to build up on it .
In my field the education more or less only teaches people the basics and nobody except people who studied before the university knows what the interviewer are even talking about usually they hear it for the first time . So the tactic for etnry level roles is just to ask them what they studied about and not they don't ask about what they will actually work with .
that is why it is very common for people with university degrees to begin with like some kind of a support role and work up .

I moved to the netherlands for a eng job, got caught up up with life. been here 7 years and realised in this bs country that eng jobs pay literally only 15% more than uber eats.

fuck this ambitionless society

No ive been working for 7 years now. Whats crazier is this job is easier than my current one, just way more money.

U dont understand, I forgot the basics that I have used actively. I cant remeber shit off the top of my head.
>>
>>62237975
