I have never seen a single watch thread on biz even though it does qualify as a financial investment and holds value quite well.

Discuss what you’re buying,
Im Tempted by a Sea master at the moment.
also link any useful website / video related to watches

There’s been lots of watch threads but they trigger Janny for some reason so they don’t last long.

Omega will forever be the “not a Rolex” brand. Truly the Pepsi of watches.

I like Omega precisely bc it's not Rolex. Every retard wears a Rolex.

the point of wealth is status and always has been

that being said watches are not really investments at all outside of the 1 of 100 types or factory diamond watches which almost no one on here will ever have access too

Woman spotted. Dump it all to zero.

Thank you for proving my point; your pic shows that “status signaling” is Jeet behavior.

But watches are still neat. For me, it’s the precision of engineering and economy of space that make watches interesting.

Women are attracted to status. All jewelry exists to display status. This is why men wear jewelry. A watch is no different than earings and chains.

Watches are a scam, they're not rare, not difficult to make and there's nothing special about the ones most people collect and think have value. You can get a japanese miyota movement which will be on par with any of the name brands for $35. You can get a swiss ETA movement which will be the same as the miyota for $350. Most boutique brands shove the ETA movment inside a custom case and add a 10-20x markup. The only thing a few of the name brands do is take that basic movment design and make it in house. It's not like a ferrari where you're getting their own specially engineered V12 motor, here your rolex is still the same 4 cylinder shitheap inside a corolla except it says rolex instead of toyota. It's not until you start getting into watches that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars where you can say the movement is unique and actually rare.

And if you wear any of these watches then the value goes back to the value of scrap metal because they get dinged up instantly.
>>
>>62242323
I have no value for them and I'd rather put that money to work for me. I can understand throwing a few hundred for something that tells the time because it looks good and is nicely engineered (even though I still won't wear one); more than that it's status signalling for jeets, goyim and yes, wealthy people because they fall for status signalling too.
Not very different from Funko dolls wagie goyim love except watches less stupid.

I like G-shocks. Theyre the working man's luxury watch.
I currently wear a baby-g that I fished from a thrift store and replaced the battery in it. It looks like it was left in the sun for literal years.
>>
My Vostok Amfibia broke the spring some time ago (after ~50yrs of use) and since it's really worn out I looked at something new. My old Casio Illuminator (A168 I believe) in the drawer had a dead battery. So I went for a Timex Solar and I'm pretty happy with it. There's something nice about it's simplicity, and it goes well with any kind of getup.
I never really understood the idea of pouring money into stuff like a common Rolex, unless you're going for an artisan complication watch where the mechanism itself is a masterpiece.
Rolex puts you in a wannabe-rich category.

That sounds like a kino watch.

If you can’t geek out on a watch like that by yourself, and instead are thinking about impressing others, then you are a filthy casual.

To atone for your plebbitry, you ought to give your watch to a trve WatchFag such as myself.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
>>
>>62248093
It depends on the model I think. If you could score a Bruce wayne at msrp, you could immediately resell it that day on the gray market for 9k profit.

That's a pretender, pic related is the real deal. Flown to the moon and back and the movement was actually used in the onboard instrumentation. Predating quartz watches, this thing is such high frequency that the sweep looks perfectly smooth to the naked eye.

They don't have the technology to make them anymore.
>>
>>62248122

Swatch makes cheap disposable automatics (sistem 51). They're not chronographs, but I'm sure they could make it happen if they really wanted (which they would never do since it would actually eat into smegma's market share.

“Best” is a loaded term. The PRX is a kino watch (and it is very funny that Rolex ripped it off with le Land Dweller).

I think it is uncontroversial to say the PRX is a top 3 <$1K watch. Also in the running are the Hamilton Khaki and the G-Shock.

Is the automatic worth it over the quartz in your opinion?

>>62248269
How much of a WatchFag are you? The quartz gives you the same external aesthetics as the automatic at a fraction of the cost. For normies, the external aesthetic is enough.

But WatchFags will pay the premium for internal aesthetics.
